{"id":3882,"date":"2012-10-16T15:49:55","date_gmt":"2012-10-16T15:49:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/polish\/?p=3882"},"modified":"2012-11-01T16:48:24","modified_gmt":"2012-11-01T16:48:24","slug":"public-holidays-in-poland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/polish\/public-holidays-in-poland\/","title":{"rendered":"Public holidays in Poland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\">I usually write about different holidays in my posts, but today I wanted to just put a list together, so everything is in one spot!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">During these public holidays (<strong>\u015bwi\u0119ta pa\u0144stwowe<\/strong>) the banks and other institutions are predominantly closed, as well as some smaller shops:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>January 1<\/strong>: New Year&#8217;s Day<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Easter Sunday and Monday<\/strong> (first Sunday after the first spring full moon)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>May 1<\/strong>: Labour Day<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>May 3<\/strong>: Constitution Day (on the anniversary of May 3, 1791 Constitution proclamation)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Corpus Christi<\/strong>: On Thursday of the ninth week after Easter there are processions with white-dressed children, attended by hundreds of people.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3884\" style=\"width: 269px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/polish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2012\/10\/images-4.jpeg\" aria-label=\"Images 4\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3884\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3884\"  alt=\"\" width=\"259\" height=\"194\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/polish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2012\/10\/images-4.jpeg\"><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3884\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">All Saints&#039; Day in Poland<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>August 15<\/strong>: Assumption of Virgin Mary, Polish Army Day (on the anniversary of the victorious battle of 1920 against Russian army fought on the outskirts of Warsaw)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>November 1<\/strong>: All Saints&#8217; Day<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>November 11<\/strong>: National Independence Day (Poland regained independence in 1918 after 123 years of partitions)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>December 25, 26<\/strong>: Christmas<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">There are also less official feasts that are usual working days:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Fat Thursday:<\/strong> The day of eating doughnuts (the last Thursday of the Carnival)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>International Women&#8217;s Day<\/strong>: a popular communist feast when men should show their appreciation of women with a flower or a gift. Originally the day was established in USA to commemorate 129 women who died during a fire in a New York factory in 1908 (March 8th)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>The First Day of Spring<\/strong>: An unofficial occasion popular among children, who traditionally play truant on that day. (<strong>March 21st<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>April Fool&#8217;s Day<\/strong>: A world-known tradition of making fools of everyone, in Poland called with latin name &#8220;Prima Aprilis&#8221;. (<strong>April 1st<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Child&#8217;s Day<\/strong>: Children are given the sweets, taken to zoo garden or something similar. (<strong>June 1st<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>St John&#8217;s Night<\/strong>: The shortest night of the year is the only time when fern blooms. The one who find it, would be happy and well-off, but be careful: it is forbidden to share hapiness and money with anyone else. (<strong>June 24th<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Eve of St Andrew&#8217;s Day<\/strong>: People read the future from the shapes of wax that was earlier melted and poured into cold water.
