When it comes to the way we communicate with each other, it\u2019s obvious the Internet influenced some major changes: Email superseded snail mail, Facebook pretty much swallowed the idea of calling someone and wishing them a happy birthday, our job hunts are conducted through LinkedIn…<\/p>\n

It\u2019s slightly less in-your-face, but the Internet is also shifting the words we use to speak to one another, not just the way we choose to communicate. Our obsession with the Internet even influences the simple act of talking \u2013 out loud, in real life (IRL, if you prefer). Certain acronyms, neologisms, and abbreviations have infiltrated everyday speech \u2013 if I say something like \u201cOMG, WTF, why did this happen?,\u201d most people would know what I\u2019m talking about. Since people often communicate online and through text messages, truncated turns of phrase and space-saving emoticons are now mainstream.<\/p>\n

Here are some popular abbreviations in both Polish and English:<\/p>\n

2U2<\/span> –\u00a0To You Too – Wzajemnie<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

4<\/span> – For – Dla<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

4U<\/span> – For you – Dla ciebie\/Dla was<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

ABT<\/span> – About –\u00a0Mniej wi\u0119cej, w przybli\u017ceniu<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

ATM<\/span> – At the moment – W tym momencie<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

BBL<\/span> – Be back later – Bed\u0119 p\u00f3\u017aniej<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

ADN<\/span> – Any day now – Na dniach<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

AKA<\/span> – Also known as –\u00a0Znane (-y\/-a) tak\u017ce jako<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

ASAP<\/span> – As soon as possible – Tak szybko jak to jest mo\u017cliwe<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

BION<\/span> – Believe it or not – Cho\u0107 trudno w to uwierzy\u0107<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

BRB<\/span> – Be right back – Zaraz wracam<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

EOM<\/span> – End of message – Koniec wiadomo\u015bci<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
