We all knew his poems growing up!\u00a0Jan Brzechwa<\/strong>, born Jan Wiktor Lesman<\/strong> was a Polish writer of Jewish descent. He is mostly known for his contribution to children’s literature as well as for his translations of Russian literature, translating works by Aleksandr Pushkin, Sergey Yesienin and Vladimir Mayakovskiy. This particular poem was one of my favorites growing up! Why? Because life is better in colors! Enjoy:)<\/p>\n

\nModny kolor fioletowy,<\/strong>
\nA ty jeste\u015b co? \u017ba\u0142oba!<\/strong>
\nCiebie lubi\u0105 tylko wdowy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

– Lepszy czarny jest ni\u017c bia\u0142y!<\/strong>
\n– Lepszy bia\u0142y, za to r\u0119cz\u0119,<\/strong>
\nWszak si\u0119 na mnie posk\u0142ada\u0142y<\/strong>
\nBarwy, kt\u00f3re tworz\u0105 t\u0119cz\u0119.<\/strong><\/p>\n

– Tylko panny i oseski<\/strong>

Such was painter\u2019s meditation:<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\nTones and colors are well-known,<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\nEach has different pronunciation <\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\nEach has got some implication.<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

In a dye-works he once heard<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\nHow the colors quarreled badly<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\n– Yellow is the poorest nerd<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\nHis jealousy makes him sick<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

-It\u2019s trash-talking but all right,<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\nJealous women fond of me,<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\nIn a nutshell, this year\u2019s fashion:<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\nYellow trendy, red not quite<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Black has mumbled: Oh my dear<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\nWhat\u2019s the point of conversation?<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\nWhen red hits the roof, I prove,<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\nHe has purple coloration.<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

-Quiet! Everybody likes it and in brief,<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\nColor purple is now in.<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\nI will have you know, you\u2019re grief<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\nYou are only liked by widows.<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

-Better color black than white!<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\n-That is not right, better white!<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\nNo diggity! Bear in mind this fact:<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\nthe base of the rainbow is white.<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

-Maidens, babies no one else<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\nCan delight in color white\u2026<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\n-Boo\u2026and blue?<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\n-Blue?<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\n– He is my witness that is true.<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Blue said humbly: I save my breath<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\nAfter all, everyone with time will fade<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\nGreen hopefully just threw in:<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\n-I hope\u2026 I hope\u2026<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
