In Sunday\u2019s presidential election (<strong>wybory prezydenckie<\/strong>)\u00a0Andrzej Duda won the most votes, but fell short of the 50% he needed to win without a second round of voting.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Analysis: What&#039;s at stake as Poland&#039;s presidential race heads to a run-off?\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LJDMAV6U9mc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The results mean <strong>Duda<\/strong> and <strong>Trzaskowski<\/strong> will go head to head (<strong>\u0142eb w \u0142eb<\/strong>) in a second round (<strong>druga runda<\/strong>) on July 12th, in a vote that will determine Poland\u2019s political future (<strong>polityczna przysz\u0142o\u015b\u0107 Polski<\/strong>). Polls before Sunday\u2019s vote suggested a runoff between the two candidates would be too close to call.<\/p>\n<p>Independent candidate <strong>Szymon Ho\u0142ownia<\/strong> was in third place, while the far-right nationalist<strong> Krzysztof Bosak<\/strong> was in fourth.<\/p>\n<p>Turnout was estimated at 63%, well up from the 49% turnout in the last presidential elections in 2015, in a sign of how the polarization (<strong>polaryzacja<\/strong>) of the last five years has mobilized voters on both sides of the divide. People were mostly voting in person, although they were required to wear masks at polling stations.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m sure people in Poland are eager to see what the next round will bring and who is going to win!
