Poland has a reputation as one of the few European destinations where you still get a lot of “bang for your buck”! Exchanging money in Poland is the most frequent banking necessity for visitors. Consequently, it is necessary that you obtain the most for your money by getting familiar with these typical money words in Polish.<\/p>\n

Today I will list some examples, that might be helpful.<\/p>\n

The word for money in Polish is pieni\u0105dze<\/strong>. <\/i>Credit card is <\/i>karta kredytowa<\/strong> and traveller\u2019s check is\u00a0czek podr\u00f3\u017cny<\/strong>.<\/i><\/p>\n

Despite the rather grandiose name, the Z\u0142oty<\/strong> is unfortunately not “golden” – which is the literal translation of the word – but comes in a variety of shapes, from the two tier colored 5 and 2 denominations, to the plain silver single Z\u0142oty<\/strong> coins.<\/p>\n

The international accountancy acronym (mi\u0119dzynarodowy akronim ksi\u0119gowo\u015bci<\/strong>)\u00a0<\/span>for the Polish currency is PLN<\/strong> (which stands for \u2018Polish New\u2019, as the Z\u0142oty <\/strong>is the currency that has been circulating since 1994), and this is what will be displayed in most bureau de change<\/i> Kantor wymiany<\/strong>, or simply Kantor<\/strong>. In most Polish shops and markets, prices are displayed simply by displaying a number followed by Z\u0142<\/strong> (to indicate the price in Z\u0142oty<\/strong>), and less commonly, or for specific goods, Gr<\/strong> (to indicate Groszy<\/strong>).<\/p>\n
