If not, this post is all about them:)<\/p>\n<p>Sharks are among the largest types of fish that inhabit the oceans. Species of sharks (<strong>gatunki rekin\u00f3w<\/strong>) such as the whale shark, basking shark, and great white shark can outsize other fish by many meters, but some of the sharks are quite small species of fish. Image by MLwp from Pixabay<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The scientific name of the great white shark literally means \u201csharp or jagged tooth\u201d (<span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"pl\"><strong>ostry lub postrz\u0119piony z\u0105b<\/strong>).\u00a0<\/span>When you look at the pictures of large great whites, it is easy to see how they got their name. An adult shark can grow up to 20 ft. (6 meters) in length and weigh 4,200 lb. (1,905 kg). They have a pointed nose (<span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"pl\"><strong>szpiczasty nos<\/strong>)<\/span>, gray upper body (<span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"pl\"><strong>szara g\u00f3rna cz\u0119\u015b\u0107 cia\u0142a<\/strong>)<\/span>, and white underbody (<strong>bia\u0142y brzuch<\/strong>). There are 9 species of hammerhead sharks, all with flattened heads in the shape of a hammer or mallet (<span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"pl\"><strong>sp\u0142aszczone g\u0142owy w kszta\u0142cie m\u0142otka<\/strong>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The great hammerhead shark can be up to 20 ft. (6 meters) long. Hammerheads are a type of ground shark and tend to swim on ocean floors (<strong>dno oceanu<\/strong>). There they feed on squid (<span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"pl\"><strong>ka\u0142amarnica<\/strong>)<\/span>, fish (<strong>ryba<\/strong>), and octopus (<span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"pl\"><strong>o\u015bmiornica<\/strong>)<\/span>. The whale shark is the largest shark species alive today with the largest recorded specimen being 62 ft. (18.8 meters) long!<\/p>\n<p>Their average length is 32 ft. (9.8 meters) and they can weigh up to 16 US tons (15,000 kg).<\/p>\n<p>They are also classed among the filter feeder sharks. Just like the whale shark, this is a filter feeder that feeds on plankton as it swims with an open mouth.<\/p>\n<p>Large basking sharks grow to between 20 and 26 ft. (6 \u2013 8 meters) in length. Apart, from its massive size, the basking shark is identified by its 3-ft. (1-m) wide mouth.\u00a0Other common names for the basking shark include elephant shark, bone shark, or sail-fish (<span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"pl\"><strong>rekin s\u0142oniowy, rekin kostny lub \u017caglica<\/strong>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Despite the fact that sharks are apex predators (predators at the top of a food chain &#8211;\u00a0<strong><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"pl\">drapie\u017cniki na szczycie \u0142a\u0144cucha pokarmowego<\/span><\/strong>), many species of sharks are classified as endangered (<strong>zagro\u017cone<\/strong>). Every year, an estimated <strong>100 million sharks are killed by people<\/strong>.
