Now before you start to think this post belongs in the German Blog<\/a>, don’t go too far because you’re in the right place.<\/p>\n

Oktoberfest in Blumenau, Santa Catarina<\/em>, is an annual event that was originally created in the 1980’s to generate funds for the city after a severe flood took over most of the city. \u00a0Why Oktoberfest? \u00a0Well, Blumenau <\/em>was founded by German immigrants in the 19th century, and this cultural enclave continues so much that many in the city still stick to German traditions and speak the language. \u00a0After the first festival’s success, the city has hosted a little under 3 weeks of festivities every year for tourists from all over Brazil and the world and today is the second largest cultural festival in the country!<\/p>\n

I had the privilege<\/em> to attend this past weekend and my friends and I had a blast!<\/p>\n

I even learned a fun song Oktoberfest Blumenau song<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Em Outubro eu tamb\u00e9m sou alem\u00e3o!<\/em> (In October, I’m also German)<\/p>\n

\nQue legal, vamos pra Blumenau

Ainda aguardo na mem\u00f3ria hist\u00f3rias que a gente viveu

\nDezessete dias no Vale Europeu<\/p>\n

Em outubro eu tamb\u00e9m sou alem\u00e3o
\nBem vestido, divertido <\/em>como manda a tradi\u00e7\u00e3o
\nOktoberfest em Blumenau vou me divertir<\/em><\/p>\n

O chope \u00e9 bom demais, e a gente sabe o que faz
\nSe beber demais pra casa a gente vai de taxi<\/p>\n

E se sobrar uma grana a gente leva de recorda\u00e7\u00e3o
\nChap\u00e9u e camiseta e guarda com carinho no cora\u00e7\u00e3o. <\/em><\/p>\n

It’s really just a drunken rendition of some sort of German fight song, but I had fun singing it nonetheless and had a great time being Alem\u00e3<\/em>!<\/p>\n
