Many times when we think of Brazil, we think beaches! <\/em>Granted, that’s not ALL there is to see in Brazil, but some of the prettiest beaches I have been to have been… in Brazil. \u00a0So why not take advantage of the fact that it’s summer in Brazil to get ready for the beach soon, to practice some beach vocabulary? And for those who are in blizzard struck regions… frio \u00e9 psicol\u00f3gico! <\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We’ll do the word in Portuguese, then English, then a quick sentence, how’s that sound?!<\/p>\n

– praia – <\/em>beach; Vou para a praia este fim de semana!<\/em><\/p>\n

– ondas – <\/em>waves; Vamos pular ondas na praia? <\/em><\/p>\n

– biquini \/ sunga – <\/em>bikini \/ swim trunks (you know, the speedo kind? that’s what many men wear in Brazil at the beach!); N\u00e3o esquecem de levar seus biquinis e sungas, vamos nadar! <\/em><\/p>\n

– cal\u00e7ad\u00e3o – <\/em>boardwalk; Tem v\u00e1rios lugares para comer no cal\u00e7ad\u00e3o. <\/em><\/p>\n

– mergulhar – <\/em>to\u00a0dive (in); Que vontade de dar um mergulho, mas a \u00e1gua est\u00e1 muito fria!<\/em><\/p>\n

– protetor solar – <\/em>sunblock; Eu queimo muito f\u00e1cilmente, preciso passar bastante protetor solar. <\/em><\/p>\n

– ilha – <\/em>island; Como chega naquela ilha? <\/em><\/p>\n

– mar – <\/em>ocean; O mar hoje est\u00e1 bravo! As ondas est\u00e3o muito grandes!<\/em><\/p>\n

– palmeira – <\/em>palm tree; Vou ficar debaixo daquela palmeira, tem uma boa sombra l\u00e1. <\/em><\/p>\n

– areia – <\/em>sand; Cal\u00e7a um chinelo, a areia est\u00e1 muito quente hoje!<\/em><\/p>\n

– \u00f3culos de sol – <\/em>sunglasses; Ser\u00e1 que vou ficar com a marca do meu \u00f3culos de sol no rosto? <\/em><\/p>\n

– cadeira de praia – <\/em>beach chair; Quero uma cadeira de praia, esqueci de trazer minha canga. <\/em><\/p>\n

– sombra – <\/em>shade or beach umbrella; Sem uma sombra, vou fritar neste sol!<\/em><\/p>\n

– surfar – <\/em>to surf; Queria muito aprender a surfar, mas n\u00e3o sei nadar muito bem. <\/em><\/p>\n

– canga – <\/em>sarong; Uso a minha canga como toalha e vestido!<\/em><\/p>\n

– nadar – <\/em>to swim; Hoje d\u00e1 para nadar no mar, as ondas est\u00e3o\u00a0tranq\u00fcilas. <\/em><\/p>\n

– futev\u00f4lei – <\/em>a mix of soccer (football) & volleyball – played on many beaches in Brazil; Adoro assistir as pessoas jogarem futev\u00f4lei, mas eu acho muito dif\u00edcil!<\/em><\/p>\n

– \u00e1gua de coco – <\/em>coconut water; Estou com sede. \u00a0Vou pedir uma \u00e1gua de coco. <\/em><\/p>\n
