We’ve written about flooding in Brazil before, like the Santa Catarina floods<\/a> in 2008 and the coastal flooding<\/a> in Rio de Janeiro last year. There’s often seasonal flooding, particularly in the south, but this year has been exceptionally bad. Heavy rains [chuvas<\/em>] and floods [enchentes<\/em>] have affected Minas Gerais, S\u00e3o Paulo, and Santa Catarina<\/a>, but the worst hit area has been Rio de Janeiro’s mountain region [Regi\u00e3o Serrana<\/em>], where over 700 people have died and thousands were left temporarily homeless.<\/p>\n
