These are important to learn because although Brazilians are quite patriotic, they tend to identify most with the city they grew up in, and introduce themselves as Americans would, as a Californian or a Bostonian.<\/p>\n<p>So, let&#8217;s examine the Northern Region.<\/p>\n<p>A person from the state of <b>Tocantins<\/b> is called <i>tocantinense<\/i>, and a person from the capital of <b>Palmas<\/b> is called <i>palmense<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>A person from the state of <b>Par\u00e1<\/b> is called <i>paraense<\/i>, and a person from the capital of <b>Bel\u00e9m<\/b> is called <i>belenense<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>A person from the state of <b>Amap\u00e1<\/b> is called <i>amapaense<\/i>, and a person from the capital of <b>Macap\u00e1<\/b> is called <i>macapaense<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>A person from the state of <b>Amazonas<\/b> is called <i>amazonense<\/i>, and a person from the capital of <b>Manaus<\/b> is called <i>manaura<\/i> or <i>manauense<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>A person from the state of <b>Acre<\/b> is called <i>acreano<\/i>, and a person from the capital of <b>Rio Branco<\/b> is called <i>rio-branquense<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>A person from the state of <b>Roraima<\/b> is called <i>roraimense<\/i>, and a person from the capital of <b>Boa Vista<\/b> is called <i>boa-vistense<\/i> or <i>macuxi<\/i>. The Macuxi are actually an indigenous tribe that lives in the Roraima region, but the name has also been adopted to refer to any person from the capital city of Roraima.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<p><i>A india na foto \u00e9<\/i><i> amazonense<\/i>. The Indian girl in the photo is from the state of Amazonas.<br \/>\n<i>O acreano cresceu na capital do estado, o Rio Branco<\/i>.
