Personally, I&#8217;m a huge fan of the movie which I&#8217;ve seen multiple times and written about for a long time, so I wanted to share the info with all of you!<\/p>\n<p>Waste Land, or <em>Lixo Extraordin\u00e1rio<\/em> in Portuguese, is a UK-Brazil co-production that follows Brazilian artist Vik Muniz as he embarks on an ambitious project that combines art and social development. He works with a group of <em>catadores<\/em>, or trash pickers, in one of the largest landfills in Latin America. They use recyclable materials to recreate photographs of themselves, photographs based on famous works of art, which are then photographed from above and turned into their own works of art.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a movie about transformation, not only the transformative power of art but also how people can be transformed. Acima de tudo, \u00e9  sobre o artista. Claro que as hist\u00f3rias humanas de luta e supera\u00e7\u00e3o  comovem \u2013 tanto que o longa j\u00e1 ganhou pr\u00eamios de p\u00fablico nos festivais  de Sundance e Berlim \u2013, mas &#8220;Lixo Extraordin\u00e1rio&#8221; desde o in\u00edcio se  prop\u00f5e a ser um ve\u00edculo para Muniz, mesmo que com cara de cinema social.  Esse conflito fica evidente em um breve momento, no qual o artista, ao  afirmar estar se desapegando de bens materiais, reflete at\u00e9 que ponto  seu gesto de generosidade n\u00e3o \u00e9 uma faca de dois gumes, uma vez que ele  tamb\u00e9m se beneficia do projeto.
