From April 27 – July 13th, you can experience the Amazon in the heart of New York City.<\/p>\n
Called Amaz\u00f4nia Brasil<\/b>, the 13,000 square foot exhibit features videos, photos, demonstrations and art about the customs and habits of indigenous groups in the Amazon, workshops and forums on environmental preservation and sustainable development, and a market of handmade goods made by Amazon tribes. There is even a replica of an Amazon village complete with the “Amazon climate.” You can even interact with indigenous tribes via internet and meet artisans in person.<\/p>\n
The Amazon products store, which cost R$700,000 to fund, features 22,000 items made by Amazon communities through a sustainable development project, and all proceeds go to the Fundo de Apoio as Comunidades da Amaz\u00f4nia, which helps support Brazilian indigenous tribes.<\/p>\n
The project, run by Grupo Eco, also includes exhibits about the Amazon at the World Financial Center Courtyard Gallery, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, and the UN Building Lobby.<\/p>\n
The main exposition is located at Pier 17 at the South Street Seaport and costs $16 for adults and $11 for children.<\/p>\n
