Premiere Brazil, a joint project between the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Rio de Janeiro\u00a0International Film Festival, will sponsor an event at MoMA starting on Thursday, July 17th. The film series, which runs until July 28th, features ten new Brazilian feature films and documentaries, several of which will have their American premieres.<\/p>\n

Some of the films to look for are “Est\u00f4mago” and “Meu nome n\u00e3o\u00a0\u00e9 Johnny.” The first is a film by Marcos Jorge, about a cook who works his way to the top with his culinary skills. The second is a controversial movie based on a\u00a0true story of a middle class drug trafficker in Rio.\u00a0Also featured in the festival\u00a0is “Os Desafinados,” about a\u00a0bossa nova band\u00a0with Rodrigo Santoro.<\/p>\n

The festival\u00a0will feature\u00a0five documentaries, including “Pindorama: the True Story of the Seven Dwarves,” and “The Mystery of Samba.”<\/p>\n

This is a great opportunity not only to see the best in recent\u00a0Brazilian film, but also to practice your Portuguese listening skills!<\/p>\n
