Catholics now represent about <a href=\"http:\/\/correiodobrasil.com.br\/brasil-numero-de-catolicos-e-o-menor-em-140-anos\/289688\/\">68 percent <\/a>of the population, and Evangelical Christians encompass around 20 percent. Evangelical sects are on the rise, including Pentacostalists, Neo-Pentacostalists, Mormons, and others. In fact, Mormonism is one of the fastest growing religions in Brazil:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Jornal da Band - A religi\u00e3o que mais cresce no Brasil (M\u00f3rmons)\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/x42pqRAb2mQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>There are also traditional Protestants, including Lutherans and Episcopalians. Plus, there are around half a million members of the Eastern Orthodox Church, made up of descendants of Middle Eastern, Greek, and Eastern European immigrants. There&#8217;s also around 700,000 Jehovah&#8217;s Witnesses.<\/p>\n<p>Around 1 percent of the population is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.explorespiritism.com\/\">Spiritist<\/a>, a set of beliefs developed by Frenchman Allan Kardec, Brazilian Chico Xavier, and others. Brazil is the only country in the world with a large population of spiritists. Another percentage, less than 1 percent, practice syncretic religions like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/religion\/religions\/candomble\/\">Candombl\u00e9<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.umbandabrasil.com.br\/\">Umbanda<\/a>, a mixture of Catholic and African beliefs and traditions. There are also nearly 250,000 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.globalbuddhism.org\/thesis\/shoji.htm\">Buddhists<\/a>, many of whom are descendants of Japanese immigrants, and South America&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mombu.com\/religion\/religion\/t-south-americas-largest-buddhist-temple-opens-in-sao-paulo-temple-religion-books-1670297.html\">largest Buddhist temple<\/a> is located in S\u00e3o Paulo.
