So I thought it would be a good time to learn about gardening terms in Portuguese.<\/p>\n<p>First off, a garden is a <em>jardim<\/em>. Next, there&#8217;s <em>jardinagem<\/em> (gardening), to grow flowers and plants, and there&#8217;s <em>paisagismo<\/em>, which is landscaping. To grow something is to <em>cultivar<\/em>. So for example, you could say: <em>Eu cultivo rosas brancas<\/em>. (I grow white roses.)<\/p>\n<p>When planting flowers, you can plant <em>anuais<\/em> (annuals)\u00a0<em>bienais<\/em> (biannuals) and <em>perenes<\/em> (perennials). Some examples of annuals are the <em>girassol<\/em> (sunflower), <em>tagetes<\/em> (marigold), and <em>boca-de-le\u00e3o<\/em> (snapdragon). An example of a biannual is the <em>margarida<\/em> (daisy). Examples of perennials are the <em>a\u00e7ucena<\/em> (lily), <em>lavanda<\/em> (lavender), and <em>mosquitinho<\/em> (baby&#8217;s breath).<\/p>\n<p>You can also grow <em>legumes<\/em> (vegetables), such as <em>alho-porr\u00f3<\/em> (leek), <em>alface<\/em> (lettuce), and <em>rabanete<\/em> (raddish). Or you can grow <em>frutas<\/em> (fruits), like <em>melancia<\/em> (watermelon) or <em>morango<\/em> (strawberry). You could also grow <em>ervas<\/em> (herbs) like <em>hortel\u00e3<\/em> (peppermint) or <em>tomilho<\/em> (thyme).<\/p>\n<p>PS.
