Do you leave a message, or just call back?<\/p>\n<p>A Brazilian friend who&#8217;d lived abroad for many years and recently moved back to Brazil commented on leaving a <em>recado<\/em> (message) on voicemail. Here is what her experience has been:<\/p>\n<p><em>Ningu\u00e9m deixa recado quando liga pra voc\u00ea, seja em telefone fixo ou celular. A maioria liga, liga, a\u00ed liga de novo num \u2013 depois liga, liga e liga de novo noutro. Pelo n\u00famero de tentativas voc\u00ea pode achar que \u00e9 uma emerg\u00eancia, n\u00e9? Ent\u00e3o voc\u00ea vai checar os recados e&#8230; nada. Me falaram que isso acontece porque ningu\u00e9m por aqui checa as pr\u00f3prias mensagens. H\u00e1 tamb\u00e9m o fato de algumas operadoras cobrarem pelo servi\u00e7o. Mas continuo sem entender a mania de ligarem v\u00e1rias vezes e mesmo ap\u00f3s ouvir que aquele n\u00famero tem servi\u00e7o ativo de caixa postal, desligam. E depois reclamam contigo. Estranho.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve encountered this same thing, especially when calling cell phones. I&#8217;ve also found that if I can&#8217;t get in touch with someone &#8211; on either a landline or a cell phone &#8211; it&#8217;s easiest just to call until they pick up. Sometimes I&#8217;ve had better luck leaving a message with a secretary, in the case of business. But I&#8217;ve still found it&#8217;s best to be persistent.
