Clothing Podcast<\/a><\/p>\n

Estou procurando uma camisa polo e cal\u00e7as c\u00e1qui.
\nA marca n\u00e3o importa, mas quero uma camisa azul ou cinza.
\nTem esta camisa em um tamanho maior?
\nAs cal\u00e7as me ficaram muito bem.
\nGostaria de uma bermuda simples, tamanho 36.
\nAqui vende meias brancas? Preciso de umas novas.
\nN\u00e3o gostei muito da camisa. Vou levar somente as cal\u00e7as e a bermuda.<\/em><\/p>\n

In clothing stores in Brazil, employees tend to be very attentive, so it helps if you let them know exactly what you want. Here, the speaker says, \u201cI\u2019m looking for a polo shirt and khaki pants.\u201d Procurar<\/em> means to look for. Note that pants can be cal\u00e7as<\/em> (plural) or cal\u00e7a<\/em> (singular). Also, note that khaki sounds almost the same, but with a different spelling.<\/p>\n

This means, \u201cThe brand doesn\u2019t matter, but I want a blue or grey shirt.\u201d Marca<\/em> means brand, or clothing label, and here we use the verb importar<\/em> (to matter) in the present tense to describe a lack of preference. Note that cinza<\/em> is the word for grey.<\/p>\n

Here, the speaker asks, \u201cDo you have this shirt in a bigger size?\u201d We could also translate this as, \u201cDoes this shirt come in a bigger size?\u201d Note that maior<\/em> is larger, or bigger, and menor<\/em> is smaller.<\/p>\n

This means, \u201cThe pants fit me very well.\u201d Ficar<\/em> mean to fit, so to say \u201cthey fit me,\u201d we say me ficaram<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Bermuda<\/em> means men\u2019s shorts, which also include bathing suit shorts, like board shorts. To make a polite request, it\u2019s best to use gostar<\/em> (to like) in the conditional tense: I would like. Here, the speaker says, \u201cI would like plain shorts, size 36.\u201d Simples<\/em> means plain or simple, and tamanho <\/em>means size. Note that in Brazil, they mostly use European sizes.<\/p>\n

This means, \u201cDo you sell white socks here? I need some new ones.\u201d Socks are meias<\/em>. Note that precisar<\/em> means to need, accompanied by de<\/em> before the noun.<\/p>\n

Finally, the speaker says, \u201cI don\u2019t really like the shirt. I\u2019m just going to take the pants and the shorts.\u201d N\u00e3o gostar muito<\/em> means to not like very much, or to not really like, and is a nicer way of giving negative feedback. Note that in Portuguese, we used gostar<\/em> in the simple past tense, but in the English translatiion, we put it in the simple present tense. Somente <\/em>means only, which is the same thing as s\u00f3<\/em>. Levar<\/em> means to take.<\/p>\n
