During much of the year, this time zone is one hour ahead of U.S. East Coast EST time. During the summer, it has an <em>hor\u00e1rio de ver\u00e3o<\/em>. The summer time zone is 3 hours ahead of EST time.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<strong>Hor\u00e1rio de Amazonas<\/strong> (Amazon Standard Time, or AMT): This time zone encompasses six states in Brazil&#8217;s western region, pictured in green. This also has an <em>hor\u00e1rio de ver\u00e3o<\/em> in the summer. This time zone is one hour behind BRT time.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<strong>Hor\u00e1rio de Fernando de Noronha<\/strong> (Fernando de Noronha Archipelago Time, or FNT): This time zone includes several islands off the coast of Brazil including Fernando de Noronha, and is one hour ahead of BRT time. There&#8217;s no summer time zone here.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, there used to be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brasilescola.com\/brasil\/fuso-horario-brasileiro.htm\" target=\"_blank\">four time zones<\/a> in Brazil, with a fourth time zone in the far west of Brazil. The Brazilian government eliminated the fourth time zone in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Another interesting thing to note: the state of Bahia <a href=\"http:\/\/g1.globo.com\/bahia\/noticia\/2012\/10\/nao-havera-horario-de-verao-na-ba-nos-proximos-2-anos-diz-governador.html\" target=\"_blank\">recently cancelled<\/a> the <em>hor\u00e1rio de ver\u00e3o<\/em> for two years.
