For example, in English we say &#8220;to make a decision&#8221;, but in Portuguese people &#8220;take a decision&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Today let&#8217;s look at some very common collocations with verb &#8220;perder&#8221;!<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Perder algo<\/strong> = to lose something, to misplace something<\/p>\n<p>Perdi minhas chaves. N\u00e3o sei onde est\u00e3o. <em>[I&#8217;ve lost my keys. I don&#8217;t know where they are.]<\/em><br \/>\nOnde est\u00e1 meu livro de portugu\u00eas. Devo ter perdido. <em>[Where is my Portuguese book? I must have misplaced it.]<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Perder a paci\u00eancia \/ a calma \/ o controle<\/strong> = to lose one&#8217;s patience \/ temper \/ control<\/p>\n<p>Eu vou acabar perdendo a paci\u00eancia se ela continuar reclamando assim. <em>[I will end up losing my patience if she keeps on complaining like that.]<\/em><br \/>\nO importante \u00e9 n\u00e3o perder a calma. <em>[The important thing is not to lose your temper.]<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Perder o \u00f4nibus \/ a aula \/ o voo \/ o prazo<\/strong> = to miss the bus, the class, the flight, the deadline<\/p>\n<p>Nossa, perdi o \u00f4nibus! E agora, o que vou fazer? <em>[Man, I&#8217;ve missed the bus! And now, what am I going to do?]<\/em><br \/>\nEle perdeu o voo e teve que ir no outro dia. <em>[He missed his flight and had to go the other day.]<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Perder hora<\/strong> = to oversleep<\/p>\n<p>Perdi hora hoje de manh\u00e3 e cheguei atrasado no trabalho. <em>[I overslept this morning and arrived at work late.]<\/em><br \/>\nVou dormir cedo porque sen\u00e3o amanh\u00e3 eu perco hora. <em>[I&#8217;m going to sleep early otherwise I will oversleep tomorrow.]<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Perder a esperan\u00e7a<\/strong> = to lose hope<\/p>\n<p>Nunca podemos perder a esperan\u00e7a. Tem sempre uma sa\u00edda. <em>[We can never lose hope. There is always a way out.]<\/em><br \/>\nDepois que sua casa se incendiou, ela perdeu toda a esperan\u00e7a. <em>[After her house burned down, she lost all hope.]<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>6. Perder a validade<\/strong> = to expire<\/p>\n<p>Vamos comer logo esse iogurte antes de que perca a validade. <em>[Let&#8217;s eat that yogurt before it expires.]<\/em><br \/>\nEsse cupom j\u00e1 perdeu a validade? <em>[Has this coupon expired yet?]<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>7. Perder uma oportunidade<\/strong> = to miss an opportunity<\/p>\n<p>Ela n\u00e3o perde a oportunidade de ser desagrad\u00e1vel. <em>[She doesn&#8217;t miss an opportunity to be obnoxious.]<\/em><br \/>\nSe eu fosse voc\u00ea eu n\u00e3o perderia essa oportunidade. <em>[If I were you I wouldn&#8217;t miss that opportunity.]<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>8. Perder peso<\/strong> = to lose weight<\/p>\n<p>Ela n\u00e3o est\u00e1 comendo carboidratos \u00e0 noite para perder peso.
