Ol\u00e1, pessoal, tudo bem? There’s a new comedy show in Brazil called “Vai Que Cola”.<\/strong> It’s broadcast on cable channel Multishow (also available on satellite dishes) and it stars actor Paulo Gustavo.<\/p>\n

I kept thinking about the title of this show because it’s a very common expression nowadays: vai que cola<\/strong>. “Colar” here means to stick, like an idea, for example, you ask your dad to lend you his car and you’re sure that he’s not going to do it. However, there’s a slight chance and you say: “Vai que cola!” (Maybe this idea will stick, be successful!).<\/p>\n

Vai que is used informally to express “what if something happens”. Here are some examples:<\/p>\n

N\u00e3o sei se meus amigos v\u00eam para jantar ou n\u00e3o, mas vai que<\/strong> eles aparecem.
\nI don’t know if my friends are coming to dinner or not, but what if they come?!<\/em><\/p>\n

Leva uma blusa! Vai que<\/strong> faz frio.
\nBring a sweater! In case it gets cold.<\/em><\/p>\n

Minha entrevista de trabalho n\u00e3o foi muito boa, mas vai que<\/strong> eles me contratam.
\nMy job interview was not very good, but let’s supposed they hire me!<\/em><\/p>\n

You’re bound to hear “vai que” in Portuguese a lot, so pay attention!<\/p>\n
