The verb “estar” [to be] has a ton of expressions so I chose eight very interesting and useful ones to share with you today!<\/p>\n

01. Estar a fim de fazer alguma coisa<\/strong> = to feel like doing something<\/p>\n

O que voc\u00ea est\u00e1 afim de fazer hoje \u00e0 noite?
\nWhat do you feel like doing tonight?<\/em><\/p>\n

N\u00e3o estou afim de fazer nada.
\nI don’t feel like doing anything.<\/em><\/p>\n

02. Estar atolado de trabalho<\/strong> = to be swamped with work<\/p>\n

N\u00e3o vou sair para almo\u00e7ar com voc\u00eas hoje. Estou atolado de trabalho!
\nI’m not going out for lunch with you guys today. I’m swamped with work!<\/p>\n

Ela disse que ia se atrasar porque estava atolada de trabalho.
\nShe said she was going to be late because she was swamped with work.<\/p>\n

03. Estar de castigo<\/strong> = to be grounded \/ colocar de castigo = to ground someone<\/p>\n

N\u00e3o posso sair para brincar. Estou de castigo.
\nI can’t go out and play. I’m grounded.<\/em><\/p>\n

Se minha m\u00e3e descobrir isso ela me coloca de castigo.
\nIf my mom finds out about that she’ll ground me.<\/em><\/p>\n

04. Estar de ressaca<\/strong> = to have a hangover<\/p>\n

N\u00e3o \u00e9 de se admirar que ele esteja com uma baita ressaca. Ele bebeu uma garrafa inteira de v\u00f3dka ontem \u00e0 noite.
\nNo wonder he’s got such a bad hangover. He drank a whole bottle of vodka last night.<\/em><\/p>\n

Se voc\u00ea est\u00e1 de ressaca, \u00e9 melhor tomar s\u00f3 \u00e1gua.
\nIf you have a hangover, you should drink only water.<\/em><\/p>\n

05. Estar (de saco) cheio de<\/strong> = to be fed up with; to be sick and tired of<\/p>\n

Estou de saco cheio do barulho que esses vizinhos v\u00eam fazendo.
\nI’m fed up with the noise the neighbors have been making.<\/em><\/p>\n

Estou de saco cheio das suas desculpas esfarrapadas!
\nI’m sick and tired of your lame excuses!<\/em><\/p>\n

06. Estar de volta \u00e0 estaca zero<\/strong> = to be back to square done<\/p>\n

Infelizmente, depois de todos os nossos esfor\u00e7os, estamos de volta \u00e0 estaca zero.
\nUnfortunately, after all our efforts, we’re back to square one.<\/em><\/p>\n

07. Estar enferrujado<\/strong> = to be rusty (also fig.)<\/p>\n

Meu franc\u00eas est\u00e1 enferrujado. Preciso praticar mais.
\nMy French is rusty. I need to practice more.<\/em><\/p>\n

Faz tempo que n\u00e3o toco viol\u00e3o, ent\u00e3o estou meio enferrujado.
\nI haven’t played the guitar for some time, so I’m kind of rusty.<\/em><\/p>\n

08. Estar de licen\u00e7a maternidade<\/strong> = to be on maternity leave<\/p>\n

A Susan n\u00e3o vai trabalhar at\u00e9 m\u00eas que vem. Ela est\u00e1 de licen\u00e7a maternidade.
\nSusan is not goint to work until next month. She’s on maternity leave.<\/em><\/p>\n

Voc\u00ea n\u00e3o vai ter um minuto de folga durante sua licen\u00e7a maternidade. Os beb\u00eas consomem muito tempo.
\nYou won’t have a single minute off during your maternity leave. Babies take up all of your time.<\/em><\/p>\n
