…this is what this post is all about: making excuses.<\/p>\n

We all need to make excuses some time to get away from an unpleasant conversation so today I’m going to give you some example excuses that you can use and still be polite!<\/p>\n

Here are some example situations.<\/p>\n

Numa liga\u00e7\u00e3o pessoal [During a personal call]<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

A minha bateria est\u00e1 acabando. [My battery is running out.]<\/em>
\nTem algu\u00e9m na outra linha. [There’s someone on the other line.]<\/em>
\nEstou com visita. [I have guests.]<\/em>
\nTem algu\u00e9m na porta. [There’s someone at the door.]<\/em>
\nEstou no meio de um neg\u00f3cio agora. [I’m in the middle of something right now.]<\/em>
\nN\u00e3o estou podendo falar agora. [You kind of caught me at a bad time.]<\/em><\/p>\n

No telefone do escrit\u00f3rio [On the office phone]<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Tem algu\u00e9m me aguardando. [I have someone waiting for me.]<\/em>
\nEstou numa outra liga\u00e7\u00e3o. [I have someone else on the other line.]<\/em>
\nEstava indo para uma reuni\u00e3o. [I was just about to go to a meeting.]<\/em>
\nEle est\u00e1 em uma \/ numa reuni\u00e3o. [He’s in a meeting.]<\/em>
\nEle est\u00e1 viajando. [He’s out of town.]<\/em>
\nNossos computadores est\u00e3o \/ estavam fora do sistema. [Our computers are \/ were down.]<\/em><\/p>\n

Quando n\u00e3o encontramos um arquivo \/ documento [For being unable to locate a file \/ document]<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Tenho certeza de que est\u00e1 por aqui em algum lugar. [I’m sure it’s around here somewhere.]<\/em>
\nDeve estar fora do lugar. [Maybe it got misplaced.]<\/em>
\nAinda n\u00e3o caiu no sistema. [It’s probably still being processed.]<\/em>
\nDeve estar entre essa papelada aqui. [It’s probably somewhere in this stack of papers.]<\/em>
\nEstamos fora de sistema. [Our computers are down right now.]<\/em><\/p>\n

Por n\u00e3o ter feito algo [For not having done something]<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Andei muito ocupado. [I’ve been really busy.]<\/em>
\nEstava muito ocupado. [I was really busy.]<\/em>
\nN\u00e3o deu tempo. [I didn’t have any time.]<\/em>
\nSurgiu um imprevisto. [Something came up at the last minute.]<\/em><\/p>\n

Tinha muito tr\u00e2nsito. [Traffic was horrible.]<\/em>
\nO tr\u00e2nsito est\u00e1 p\u00e9ssimo agora de manh\u00e3. [The traffic is horrible this morning.]<\/em>
\nFiquei preso no tr\u00e2nsito. [I got stuck in traffic.]<\/em>
\nFiquei preso em uma reuni\u00e3o. [I got stuck in a meeting.]<\/em>
\nMeu voo atrasou. [My flight was delayed.]<\/em>
\nSurgiu um imprevisto. [Something came up at the last minute.]<\/em>
\nPerdi a no\u00e7\u00e3o do tempo. [I lost track of time.]<\/em>
\nMeu despertador n\u00e3o tocou. [My alarm clock didn’t go off.]<\/em><\/p>\n

Por ir embora cedo [For leaving early]<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tenho que acordar cedo amanh\u00e3. [I have to wake up early tomorrow.]<\/em>
\n3:15! J\u00e1? [Is that the time? 3:15?]<\/em>
\nTenho que buscar as crian\u00e7as. [I have to pick up my kids.]<\/em>
\nTenho que buscar um amigo no aeroporto. [I have to pick up a friend at the airport.]<\/em>
\nMarquei com um amigo meu. [I’m supposed to meet a friend of mine.]<\/em>
\nTenho que estar num lugar \u00e0s 7:00. [I’m supposed to be somewhere by 7 o’clock.]<\/em>
\nJ\u00e1 estou atrasado. [I’m already late.]<\/em><\/p>\n

Pela maneira de fazer algo [For the way you do something]<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Sempre fiz assim. [That’s the way I’ve always done it.]<\/em>
\nSempre foi feito assim. [That’s the way it’s always been done.]<\/em>
\nFui criado assim. [I was brought up that way.]<\/em>
\n\u00c9 de familia. [It runs in my family.]<\/em><\/p>\n

Por n\u00e3o entrar em contato [For not communicating]<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ando tendo problemas com meu e-mail. [I’ve been having problems with my e-mail.]<\/em>
\nEstava fora do escrit\u00f3rio. [I was out of the office.]<\/em>
\nEstava viajando. [I was out of town.]<\/em>
\nEstava numa reuni\u00e3o. [I was in a meeting.]<\/em>
\nDesculpa, mas perdi seu telefone. [Sorry, I somehow lost your phone number.]<\/em>
\nN\u00e3o consegui ligar. [I couldn’t get to a phone.]<\/em>
\nAndo ocupad\u00edssimo. [I’ve been incredibly busy.]<\/em><\/p>\n

There are a lot more situations when you need to make excuses and these are only a few ideas. Keep practicing these sentences because you don’t have to reinvent the wheel- these sentences are READY!<\/p>\n
