Oh you gotta love idioms! They make language much more interesting and fun and it is a great way to sound more like a native speaker.<\/p>\n

So I decided to share seven awesome idioms in Brazilian Portuguese for you guys today. Est\u00e3o prontos? Vamos l\u00e1!<\/p>\n

01. A vaca foi pro brejo<\/strong> = things went south, everything went wrong<\/p>\n

Tentamos com todas as nossas for\u00e7as salvar o projeto, mas a vaca foi pro brejo.
\nWe tried, with all our might, to save the project, but things went south.<\/em><\/p>\n

02. Cair do cavalo<\/strong> = to fail trying to do something, to fall flat on your face<\/p>\n

Ele chegou l\u00e1 achando que ela estava em casa, mas caiu do cavalo. Ela tinha sa\u00eddo.
\nHe arrived there thinking she was at home, but he fell flat on his face. She had stepped out.<\/em><\/p>\n

03. Ficar com um p\u00e9 atr\u00e1s<\/strong> = to be suspicious of something, to be careful<\/p>\n

A gente tem sempre que ficar com um p\u00e9 atr\u00e1s antes de fazer neg\u00f3cios com algu\u00e9m.
\nWe always have to be careful before doing business with someone.<\/em><\/p>\n

04. Dar murro em ponta de faca<\/strong> = to insist in vain<\/p>\n

Esperar que ele chegue no hor\u00e1rio \u00e9 dar murro em ponta de faca. Ele chega sempre atrasado.
\nExpecting him to come on time is to insist in vain. He’s always late.<\/em><\/p>\n

05. Dar uma de jo\u00e3o-sem-bra\u00e7o<\/strong> = to play dumb<\/p>\n

Ele deu uma de jo\u00e3o-sem-bra\u00e7o e fingiu que n\u00e3o sabia o que estava acontecendo.
\nHe played dumb and pretended he didn’t know what was happening.<\/em><\/p>\n

06. Escreveu, n\u00e3o leu, o pau comeu.<\/strong> = If you misbehave, you’ll suffer the consequences<\/p>\n

Na minha casa era assim: “Escreveu, n\u00e3o leu, o pau comeu.”
\nAt my house it was like this: If you misbehave, you’ll suffer the consequences.<\/em><\/p>\n

07. Uma m\u00e3o na roda<\/strong> = a big help, (something) very convenient<\/p>\n

Nossa, meu bairro \u00e9 uma m\u00e3o na roda. Tem tudo o que voc\u00ea precisa, bem pertinho.
\nMan, my neighborhood is very convenient. You’ve got everything you need, real close.<\/em><\/p>\n
