It&#8217;s a deeply rooted cultural element in Brazilian culture. But what does &#8220;jeitinho&#8221; mean?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Let&#8217;s first learn the expression &#8220;dar um jeito&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Dar um jeito (em)<\/strong> = to fix something<br \/>\nA torneira est\u00e1 vazando de novo? Mais tarde dou um jeito nisso. &#8211; The faucet is leaking again? I&#8217;ll fix that later.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Dar um jeito (em)<\/strong> = to do something about something<br \/>\n\u00c9 melhor voc\u00ea dar um jeito nesse problema. &#8211; You&#8217;d better do something about that problem.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Dar um jeito (em)<\/strong> = to straighten up<br \/>\nD\u00ea um jeito nesse quarto &#8211; est\u00e1 uma bagun\u00e7a. &#8211; Straighten up that room &#8211; it&#8217;s a mess.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Dar um jeito (em)<\/strong>\u00a0= to straighten something\/somebody out<br \/>\n\u00c9 melhor voc\u00ea dar um jeito nesse menino! &#8211; You&#8217;d better straighten that boy out!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Dar um jeito (em)<\/strong> = to work \/ figure something out; think of something<br \/>\nN\u00e3o sei como vou conseguir, mas de alguma forma vou dar um jeito. = I don&#8217;t know how I&#8217;m going to do it, but somehow I&#8217;m going to work something out.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Now &#8220;dar um jeitinho&#8221; is a whole different story. The word <em>jeitinho<\/em> has two meanings, one positive and one negative. If you say: &#8216;Gosto do jeitinho dela&#8217; it means that you like the way she acts, behaves etc. According to Irene Nousiainen on her blog, the &#8220;jeitinho brasileiro&#8221; is:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">O jeitinho brasileiro nada mais \u00e9 que roubar, enganar, tirar proveito, passar por cima dos outros, ganhar vantagem. Gosta do jeitinho brasileiro quem \u00e9 ego\u00edsta, individualista, egoc\u00eantrico, s\u00f3 enxerga o pr\u00f3prio umbigo&#8230; os outros &#8230; quem? os outros? o que \u00e9 isso?
