Let&#8217;s check them out!<\/p>\n<p><strong>01. to hope.<\/strong> The noun is <em>esperan\u00e7a<\/em> (hope).<\/p>\n<p>Espero ganhar na loteria no fim de semana.<br \/>\n<em>I hope to win the lottery on the weekend.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Esperamos que voc\u00ea possa vir.<br \/>\n<em>We hope you&#8217;ll be able to come.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Espero que voc\u00ea n\u00e3o se importe, mas&#8230;<br \/>\n<em>I hope you don&#8217;t mind, but&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>02. to wait<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>N\u00e3o tem pressa, posso esperar.<br \/>\n<em>There&#8217;s no hurry, I can wait.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Esperarei aqui at\u00e9 voc\u00ea voltar.<br \/>\n<em>I&#8217;ll wait here until you come back.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ela estava esperando o \u00f4nibus.<br \/>\n<em>She was waiting for the bus.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Por quem voc\u00ea est\u00e1 esperando?<br \/>\n<em>Who are you waiting for?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>03. to expect<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Espero que voc\u00ea passe!*<br \/>\n<em>I expect you to pass.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>*This sentence can also be translated as &#8220;I hope you pass!&#8221;,it all depends on the context.<\/p>\n<p>N\u00e3o espere muito dele porque ele \u00e9 muito irrespons\u00e1vel.<br \/>\n<em>Don&#8217;t expect much from him because he&#8217;s too irresponsible.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Todos esper\u00e1vamos que nosso time ganhasse.<br \/>\n<em>We all expected our team to win.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Chegar<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Chegar<\/em> means to arrive, but we can also use &#8220;get&#8221; or &#8220;come&#8221;, depending on the situation. Check out some examples:<\/p>\n<p>Quando o \u00f4nibus chegou, eu j\u00e1 estava na rodovi\u00e1ria h\u00e1 meia hora.<br \/>\n<em>When the bus arrived, I&#8217;d already been at the bus station for half an hour.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ele chegou bem cedo para a reuni\u00e3o.<br \/>\n<em>He came very early for the meeting.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Os alunos que chegarem atrasados n\u00e3o poder\u00e3o entrar.<br \/>\n<em>The students who come late won&#8217;t be allowed to enter.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Quando cheguei aqui, a sala ainda estava vazia.<br \/>\n<em>When I got here, the classroom was still empty.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ontem \u00e0 noite, cheguei em casa muito tarde.<br \/>\n<em>Last night I got home very late.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Quando voc\u00ea chegar ao hotel, n\u00e3o se esque\u00e7a de me ligar.<br \/>\n<em>When you get to the hotel, don&#8217;t forget to call me.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We translate <em>chegar<\/em> as come when we arrive late or early:<\/p>\n<p>chegar cedo &#8211; come early<br \/>\nchegar atrasado &#8211; come late<\/p>\n<p>We translate chegar as get when we mention where we arrive.<\/p>\n<p>chegar em casa &#8211; get home<br \/>\nchegar aqui &#8211; get here<br \/>\nchegar l\u00e1 &#8211; get there<br \/>\nchegar ao cinema &#8211; get to the movies<\/p>\n<p>And to finish our post there are two very cool expressions with chegar:<\/p>\n<p>Chega pra l\u00e1! &#8211; Move over!<br \/>\nChega pra c\u00e1! &#8211; Come closer!<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"color: #555555\">Want more free resources to\u00a0<a style=\"color: #2882c1\" href=\"http:\/\/www.transparent.com\/learn-portuguese-brazilian\/\">learn Portuguese<\/a>?
