Some examples:<\/p>\n<p>O ursinho de pel\u00facia est\u00e1 em cima da cama.<br \/>\n<em>The teddy bear is on the bed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>O banheiro fica no fim do corredor.<br \/>\n<em>The bathroom is at the end of the hall.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Os talheres ficam na segunda gaveta.<br \/>\n<em>You can find cutlery in the second drawer.<\/em> (That&#8217;s where it always is)<\/p>\n<p>Os talheres j\u00e1 est\u00e3o na mesa.<br \/>\n<em>Cutlery is already placed on the table.<\/em> (But that&#8217;s not its place, it&#8217;s temporary)<\/p>\n<p>When you are translating the word &#8220;stay&#8221; then obviously it&#8217;s likely to be ficar<\/p>\n<p>Por quantos dias voc\u00ea ficou no hotel?<br \/>\n<em>How many days did you stay at the hotel?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Voc\u00ea vai ficar em casa hoje?<br \/>\n<em>Are you going to stay in today?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Another usage is when you want to say that someone got ________ .<\/p>\n<p>In this case you&#8217;re also likely to be using <strong>ficar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Ele ficou super irritado com essa situa\u00e7\u00e3o.<br \/>\n<em>He got super upset with this situation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>N\u00e3o fico mais surpreso quando ele chega em casa b\u00eabado.<br \/>\n<em>It no longer comes as a surprise when he gets home drunk.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Estou ficando cansado, estou trabalhando desde as cinco da manh\u00e3.<br \/>\n<em>I&#8217;m getting tired, I&#8217;ve been working since since five in the morning.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>N\u00e3o fica triste, se anima, vai!<br \/>\n<em>Don&#8217;t be sad, cheer up, come on!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I hope these examples have helped you better use the words ficar and estar, always remember that ficar will be for permanent situations, like things that can&#8217;t be easily moved away or that usually has a place of its own.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<img width=\"350\" height=\"234\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2014\/12\/livros-350x234.jpg\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image tmp-hide-img\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2014\/12\/livros-350x234.jpg 350w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2014\/12\/livros.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><p>Ol\u00e1, pessoal!
