Rio was given this nickname due to a song which became some kind of anthem for Rio, written and composed by Andr\u00e9 Filho and arranged by Silva Sobreira in 1935 for the Carnaval in Rio:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Rio 2016\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Z00jjc-WtZI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Even though the <em>Copa do Mundo de Futebol<\/em> brought many tourist to Brazil, the <em>Jogos Ol\u00edmpicos<\/em> will bring people from all over the world, since 10,500 <em>atletas<\/em> (athletes) from 205 <em>pa\u00edses<\/em> (countries) are participating on it \u2013 much more than the 32 countries who played in the <em>Copa do Mundo de Futebol<\/em> in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>While the world awaits for the <em>Jogos Ol\u00edmpicos<\/em> to begin, you can start to learn the names of the sports as well as other vocabulary which relates to it.<\/p>\n<p>During the <em>cerim\u00f4nia de abertura<\/em> (opening ceremony) <em>um atleta<\/em> (one athlete) is chosen to light the <em>chama ol\u00edmpica<\/em> (Olympic flame), which will remain lit until after the very last game for the <em>cerim\u00f4nia de fechamento<\/em> (closing ceremony).<\/p>\n<p>Olympic medals \u2013 <em>medalhas ol\u00edmpicas<\/em>:<br \/>\n\u2022 The<em> vencedor<\/em> (winner) or <em>primeiro lugar<\/em> (first place) is awarded <em>medalha de ouro<\/em> (gold medal).<br \/>\n\u2022 The <em>segundo lugar<\/em> (second place) is awarded <em>medalha de prata<\/em> (silver medal).<br \/>\n\u2022 The<em> terceiro lugar<\/em> (third place) is awarded <em>medalha de bronze<\/em> (bronze medal).<\/p>\n<p>In 2016 there will be a total of 42 <em>esportes ol\u00edmpicos<\/em> (Olympic sports), 2 of which are being reintroduced \u2013 one of them after 112 years and the other one after 92 years.
