{"id":602,"date":"2009-07-23T08:00:05","date_gmt":"2009-07-23T12:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/?p=558"},"modified":"2009-07-23T08:00:05","modified_gmt":"2009-07-23T12:00:05","slug":"favorite-brazilian-author","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/favorite-brazilian-author\/","title":{"rendered":"Favorite Brazilian Author"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For today&#8217;s interactive feature, the question is: <strong>who is your favorite Brazilian author?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Even though most Americans and Europeans are most familiar with Latin American authors like Garcia Marquez and Isabel Allende, Brazil has produced quite a few world class novelists, poets, and playwrights that have not received the international acclaim they deserve.<\/p>\n<p>Though <a href=\"http:\/\/www.paulocoelho.com\" target=\"_blank\">Paulo Coelho<\/a> is Brazil&#8217;s best known author outside of Brazil, my favorite Brazilian author is <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/brazilian-profile-jorge-amado\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jorge Amado<\/a>. I also love <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joaquim_Maria_Machado_de_Assis\" target=\"_blank\">Machado de Assis<\/a>, but I find Amado&#8217;s writing slightly less challenging to read, and I really feel like I am transported to another place and time. Bahia is one of my favorite parts of Brazil, and most of his work takes places there.
