This post will show you how to express your frustration in the most succinct and culturally common manner.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chatear<\/strong> is the first word you will need to know; it means <em>to bother or annoy<\/em>. If you are upset, you may say that you are <strong>chateado\/a<\/strong>; this is a very common saying. Someone who is generally the cause of such feeling is said to be <strong>chato\/a<\/strong>, or even a <strong>pentelho<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A synonym for <strong>chateado<\/strong> is <strong>saco cheio<\/strong>. Stronger still is the expression <strong>&#8220;p. da vida&#8221;<\/strong>. Likewise, the verb <strong>chatear<\/strong> can be substituted by <strong>encher o saco<\/strong>, which is clearly related to the phrase above.<\/p>\n<p>And if you are looking for the right way to say <em>a pain in the butt<\/em> in Portuguese, look no further:<strong> &#8220;um p\u00e9 no saco&#8221;<\/strong> works perfectly.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n<strong>Chato<\/strong> is also frequently used to express its more literal meaning <em>boring<\/em>. <strong>Careta<\/strong> means <em>old-fashioned \/ boring<\/em> but is itself a bit old-fashioned and boring as a word. How meta.<\/p>\n<p>My favorite is a sequence used by Brazilians that I find to be absolutely hilarious. Based on how annoying someone is, they are a different type of baggage! A<strong> mala<\/strong> (<em>suitcase<\/em>) is someone obnoxious; if they are even worse, they would be a <strong>ba\u00fa<\/strong> (<em>trunk<\/em>); the absolute most obnoxious person would be a <strong>container<\/strong> (sic), which is quite a strong statement.[edit: also you can add in a gradation: <strong>mala sem al\u00e7a<\/strong> (<em>suitcase with no handle<\/em>) is between <strong>mala<\/strong> and <strong>ba\u00fa<\/strong>]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes we all get a little annoyed, no matter what language we speak.
