This is another very common, useful phrase, and is the centerpiece of Brazilian hospitality.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nYou can use this saying when receiving guests, or in other circumstances to mean <em>do what you need to do, don&#8217;t worry about me<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>This expression is comprised of two profoundly useful words in the Portuguese language: <strong>ficar<\/strong> and <strong>vontade<\/strong>. I plan on doing an entire post on <strong>ficar<\/strong> as it is a ubiquitous and many-splendored verb in Brazil. <strong>Vontade<\/strong> means <em>will<\/em> and is related to the idea of <em>free will<\/em> in <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/pt.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Filosofia\">filosofia<\/a><\/strong>, though the best word for <em>free will<\/em> in the academic sense would be <strong>livre-arb\u00edtrio<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fica a vontade means make yourself at home.
