And as you know, every great party means great food. This <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ave<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (bird) was already consumed by the people who inhabited North America territory before colonization. Prepared at banquets by the Aztecs and North American Indians, the turkey <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">foi levado<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (was taken) to Europe and thus began to integrate suppers in several (pa\u00edses) <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">countries<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> of the world, arriving in Brazil in the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">s\u00e9culo dezenove<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (nineteenth century). Today, it is often replaced by something called <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">chester<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a chicken <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">criado<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (raised) in Brazil through genetic combination and artificial selection with higher concentration of breast and thighs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the new year, turkey can often be replaced by gammon. It is customary not to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">comer<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (eat) birds on New Year&#8217;s Eve for believing that their backslipping is a sign of<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> azar<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (bad luck).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7346\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2016\/12\/1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"626\" height=\"417\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2016\/12\/1.jpg 626w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2016\/12\/1-350x233.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 626px) 100vw, 626px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>Arroz\/ Rice <\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rice is an essential food in the diet of the Brazilian population, consumed on a daily basis. As such, it could not be left out in the Christmas Eve and New Year&#8217;s Eve supper. The traditional dish is most often added with raisins, which causes a lot of controversy (and also a lot of funny memes) because a large number of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">pessoas<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (people) don\u2019t appreciate this combination.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Other typical varieties are <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">arroz \u00e0 grega<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (rice with raisins, peas and cheese), <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">arroz de forno<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (oven baked rice with many other ingredients) and rice with codfish.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7347\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2016\/12\/2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"430\" height=\"327\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2016\/12\/2.jpg 430w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2016\/12\/2-350x266.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 430px) 100vw, 430px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>Salpic\u00e3o<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Salpic\u00e3o is a typical Brazilian salad from the city of Dourados, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The dish consists of a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">mistura<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (mixture) of various vegetables, potato sticks and shredded <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">frango<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (poultry). This <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">cren\u00e7a<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (belief) is based on an Italian saying that claims <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cLentilha no ano novo, dinheiro o ano todo\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (&#8220;Lentil in the new year, money all year round&#8221;).
