Today we\u2019ll talk about Lira Neto\u2019s newest release <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Uma hist\u00f3ria do Samba: as origens <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(A history of samba: the origins). If you\u2019re interested in learning about one of Brazil\u2019s major music genre, this might just be the<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> livro<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (book) for you. Not only do you get to find out more about this rhythm that has become an intrinsic part of our national identity, you can also practice your<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> habilidades de leitura<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (reading skills) in Portuguese!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Palavras-chave (keywords): <em>livro<\/em> (book), <em>ler<\/em> (read)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lira Neto is a journalist and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">um escritor<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (a writer) from Cear\u00e1 (a Northeastern state in Brazil) who became<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> conhecido<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (known) for his monumental and comprehensive biography on the Brazilian president Get\u00falio Vargas. The book rebukes old clich\u00e9s and discusses how the music style was formed <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">no come\u00e7o <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(in the beginning) of the 20th century, coming originally from afro-Brazilian beats and being influenced by <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">muitos<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (many) other rhythms. Initially frowned upon by the<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> carioca <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(born in Rio de Janeiro) elites due to its humble black origins, <\/span><b>samba<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> faced a lot of discrimination back when it was emerging in the music scenario, amid many social and racial conflicts.
