Hey, everyone!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The dazzling <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">cidade<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (city) of S\u00e3o Paulo is Brazil\u2019s wealthiest, largest and most populous metropole. As such, a lot can be expected from its major museum, the S\u00e3o Paulo Art Museum (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Museu de Arte de S\u00e3o Paulo), also <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">conhecido <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(known) as MASP. MASP is a leading Brazilian cultural institution and an icon of the capital.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7519 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2017\/05\/masp.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"436\" height=\"289\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2017\/05\/masp.jpg 436w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2017\/05\/masp-350x232.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 436px) 100vw, 436px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A landmark in S\u00e3o Paulo\u2019s cityscape, the building is located on Paulista avenue, an important hub that, in addition to being a political and economic center of the city, is also a thriving area for shops, schools, restaurants, coffee shops, bus lines, subway stops, skyscrapers, banks and a main spot for demonstrations, parades and political protests, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The institution was founded in 1947 by public figure, journalist, entrepreneur and media mogul &#8211; in the likes of a Brazilian Citizen Kane &#8211; Assis Chateaubriand, who acquired a large number of art pieces largely due to the fact that he was able to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">comprar<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (purchase) them for a reasonable <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">pre\u00e7o<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (price) after World War II.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A fine collection of European, Asian, African and national art including paintings, sketches, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">drawings, etchings, sculptures and photographs<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> amount to over <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">oito mil <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(8000) pieces in the museum. Artists like Picasso, Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Renoir, Gauguin, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Monet, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">C\u00e9zanne, comprising various artistic movements and tendencies across centuries, are part of the diverse holdings of MASP, which accounts for its international recognition, besides being the most visited museum <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">no pa\u00eds <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(in the country) and <em>o maior<\/em> (the largest) in Latin America.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What particularly stands out in the current headquarters of <\/span><b>MASP <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">is its \u00a0modern and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">unique architecture, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">inaugurated in the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ano<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (year) of 1968, with the presence of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Projected by Italian architect Lina Bo Bardi &#8211; wife of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">art dealer and critic Pietro Maria Bardi a longtime MASP director, curator and personal friend of Assis Chateaubriand &#8211; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the bold and innovative construction consists of a structure <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">feita de<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (made of) glass and concrete, suspended by two bright red lateral columns, whose<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> empty space between<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> o ch\u00e3o<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (the ground) and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">o pr\u00e9dio<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (the building) <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">offers an unobstructed view of the city and where many cultural and public events are held.\u00a0It took <i>dez anos<\/i> (ten years) to be concluded and it is registered as a part of Brazil\u2019s national heritage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>MASP <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">is now<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> a celebrated meeting point for artists, students, teachers and a tourist destination for its <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">several points of interest.
