Good morning, readers!<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Today\u2019s listening and reading practice will cover a text by Brazilian comedian and cartoonist Reinaldo Figueiredo, called <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">O filme da sua vida<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (The movie of your life). His text talks about a passenger whose <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">avi\u00e3o<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (plane) is about to crash and then his <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">vida<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (life) starts flashing before his eyes in the form of a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">filme<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (movie). Foi tudo bem at\u00e9 o meio da viagem. De repente, vi uma fuma\u00e7a saindo de uma das turbinas. O avi\u00e3o come\u00e7ou a tremer e a perder altitude. Aconteceu ent\u00e3o uma despressuriza\u00e7\u00e3o da cabine e as m\u00e1scaras de oxig\u00eanio ca\u00edram automaticamente sobre nossas cabe\u00e7as. Seguindo \u00e0 risca as instru\u00e7\u00f5es dos comiss\u00e1rios de bordo, primeiro coloquei minha m\u00e1scara sobre o nariz e a boca, ajustei o el\u00e1stico, e comecei a respirar normalmente. S\u00f3 ent\u00e3o fui ajudar as crian\u00e7as ou pessoas incapazes que estavam perto de mim. Por acaso, estavam ao meu lado o prefeito do Rio e o prefeito de S\u00e3o Paulo. Apesar de viajarem muito, eles n\u00e3o tinham no\u00e7\u00e3o do que fazer. Depois de auxiliar os dois a usar suas m\u00e1scaras, fui percebendo que o problema era realmente grave. O avi\u00e3o continuava caindo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Parte 2:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Como geralmente acontece nessas horas, minha vida come\u00e7ou a passar diante de meus olhos, como se fosse um filme. Mas o equipamento de entretenimento da aeronave avisou, logo no texto de abertura: &#8220;O filme da sua vida foi adaptado para este formato de tela e teve sua dura\u00e7\u00e3o e conte\u00fado modificados para exibi\u00e7\u00e3o neste sistema&#8221;. Logo depois, apareceram as logomarcas do est\u00fadio produtor do filme, da produtora associada e das empresas que deram apoio cultural:&#8221; Junk \u00a0Pictures apresenta, em associa\u00e7\u00e3o com Santa Filomena Produ\u00e7\u00f5es Cinematogr\u00e1ficas, e com o apoio cultural dos Postos de Gasolina Saturno&#8230; O Filme da Sua Vida!&#8221;. Enquanto isso, o avi\u00e3o continuava perdendo altitude. Na telinha do encosto da poltrona come\u00e7aram a aparecer imagens de um parto, feitas com o maior bom gosto, sem muito sangue, e com uma ilumina\u00e7\u00e3o que criava um clima po\u00e9tico. Nesse momento, o piloto avisou que faria um pouso de emerg\u00eancia. E fez realmente uma aterrissagem heroica, aplaudida por todos os passageiros encaga\u00e7ados.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Parte 3:\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">O pouso foi num pequeno aeroporto de uma ilha vulc\u00e2nica, no Oceano Pac\u00edfico. A companhia a\u00e9rea instalou os passageiros num hotel, distribuiu uns vouchers que davam para comprar um sandu\u00edche e um refrigerante, e prometeu que no dia seguinte a viagem continuaria, numa outra aeronave. Durante a noite, senti o hotel tremer e fomos avisados de que poderia haver um terremoto e uma erup\u00e7\u00e3o vulc\u00e2nica. Quando soube disso, comecei a ver de novo as imagens do filme da minha vida, desta vez na TV do meu quarto no hotel. Mas o canal de TV a cabo era daquele tipo que passa tr\u00eas minutos de filme e cinco de comerciais. Al\u00e9m disso, o filme estava dublado em japon\u00eas, com legendas em mandarim. Quando estava revendo a cena do parto, o tremor de terra parou e os funcion\u00e1rios do hotel disseram que, por problemas t\u00e9cnicos no vulc\u00e3o, a erup\u00e7\u00e3o tinha sido cancelada. E eu acabei n\u00e3o conseguindo ver o filme da minha vida.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>The movie of your life<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Part 1:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It looked like a normal flight like any other. Everything was going alright until the middle of the trip. Suddenly I saw smoke coming from one of the engines. The plane began to tremble and lose altitude. Then the cabin was depressurized, and the oxygen masks fell automatically over our heads. Following the instructions of the flight attendants, I put my mask on my nose and mouth first, adjusted the elastic, and began to breathe normally. Only then did I help the children or disabled people who were close to me. By chance, the mayor of Rio and the mayor of Sao Paulo were by my side. Although they travel a lot, they had no idea what to do. After helping the two of them use their masks, I realized that the problem was really serious. The plane continued to fall.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Part 2:\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As usually happens at these times, my life began to flash before my eyes, as if it were a movie. But the entertainment equipment on the aircraft warned, in the opening text: &#8220;The movie of your life was adapted to fit this screen format and had its duration and content modified to be displayed on this system.&#8221; Soon after, the logo of the film&#8217;s production studio, the associate producer and the companies that gave cultural support appeared: &#8220;Junk Pictures presents, in association with Santa Filomena Cinematographic Productions, and with the cultural support of Saturn gas stations &#8230; The Movie of Your Life! &#8220;. Meanwhile, the plane continued to lose altitude. On the little screen on the back of the seat, images of a childbirth began to appear, done with the great taste, without much blood, and with a lighting that created a poetic atmosphere. At that moment, the pilot warned that he would do an emergency landing. And he really did a heroic landing, applauded by all the terrified passengers.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Part 3:\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The landing was at a small airport on a volcanic island in the Pacific Ocean. The airline accomodated the passengers in a hotel, handed out vouchers to buy a sandwich and a soda, and promised that the trip would continue the next day on another aircraft. At night, I felt the hotel shake and we were warned that there could be an earthquake and a volcanic eruption. When I heard this, I began to see the images of the movie of my life again, this time on the TV in my hotel room. But the cable channel was that kind that takes three minutes showing the film and five of commercials. In addition, the film was dubbed in Japanese, with subtitles in Mandarin. When I was rewatching the birth scene, the earthquake stopped and the hotel staff said that, due to technical problems in the volcano, the eruption had been canceled.
