Marcel Camus did a brilliant job of directing this classic film which was scored beautifully, featuring Luis Bonf\u00e1&#8217;s classic <em>Manh\u00e1 de Carnaval<\/em>, which many consider to have been<b>Bossa Nova<\/b> before Bossa Nova &#8216;existed.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><b>Bruno Mello<\/b>&#8216;s epic performance really carries the film, though the exotic backdrop of Rio de Janeiro during Carnaval doesn&#8217;t hurt either. Lively, playful, and at times haunting, <b>Black Orpheus<\/b> introduced the rest of the world to the exotic image of Brazil that is still prevalent to this day.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nIt is important to remember that this movie, though filmed in Rio and featuring a Brazilian cast, represents a European fantasy of Brazil and the tropics as a whole. It is obvious, for one, that the portrayal of poverty and the reality of much of afro-brazilian society is inaccurate to say the very least.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, if you haven&#8217;t seen <b>Orfeu Negro<\/b>, it is well worth it!<\/p>\n<p><b><br \/>\n-Vai! Toca!<br \/>\n-N\u00e3o sei!<\/b><\/p>\n<p>-Sabe, sim. Vai!<\/p>\n<p>[Orfeu toca viol\u00e3o]<\/p>\n<p>-Toca bem, n\u00e3o?<\/p>\n<p>-Onde \u00e9 que c\u00ea t\u00e1 olhando?<\/p>\n<p>-Cale a boca&#8230; ele est\u00e1 fazendo levantar o sol!<\/p>\n<p>-Ele fez o sol levantar!<\/p>\n<p>-Puxa! Igualzinho ao Orfeu<\/p>\n<p>-Agora voc\u00ea \u00e9 Orfeu<br \/>\n-N\u00e3o<\/p>\n<p>-Sim.
