Today we are moving forward with our series on <\/span><b><i>estados brasileiros<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (Brazilian states). To celebrate reaching the 10th text on the theme, let&#8217;s focus on a place that permeates popular Brazilian song imaginary: the state of Goi\u00e1s. Located in the central-west region, right next to the federal district where the Brazilian capital is, Goi\u00e1s is known for its countless <\/span><b>sertanejo<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> musicians (brazilian folk \/ country music) that rose to stardom throughout its recent history. Goi\u00e1s-born country <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">cantores<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (singers) have turned into icons for a whole generation, such as Leandro &amp; Leonardo, Zez\u00e9 di Camargo &amp; Luciano, Mar\u00edlia Mendon\u00e7a and Jorge &amp; Mateus, to name just a few. With over 7 million residents, the state has a territorial extension comparable to that of Finland, with about 340 thousand km2. Its capital is Goi\u00e2nia and, in addition to the federal district, the state borders Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, Tocantins and Bahia.<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Plenty of dias quentes e ensolarados<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (hot and sunny days) can be expected<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> o ano todo<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (all year long), with temperatures reaching 34\u02daC <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">no ver\u00e3o<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (in summer) and 16\u02daC <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">no inverno<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (in winter). One of the most stunning parks in Brazil can be found there, the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Serra Nacional da Chapada dos Veadeiros<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, listed as a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Patrim\u00f4nio Mundial<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (World Heritage Site) by UNESCO. Besides breathtaking landscapes featuring mountains and several <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">trilhas para caminhadas<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">hiking trails), a number of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">cachoeiras<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (waterfalls) dot its more than 600 km2 in length. Among its many wonders, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Vale da Lua, Jardim de Maytrea, Vale do Rio Preto<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Santa Barbara Waterfall<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> are well worth a visit. With just over 22 thousand inhabitants, the small town is also UNESCO protected as a Historical and Cultural Heritage for its unique Baroque architecture, cultural traditions and exuberant nature. The <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Prociss\u00e3o do Fogar\u00e9u<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fogar\u00e9u Procession) is undoubtedly one of its best known attractions, where the population stages the arrest of Jesus. The predominant vegetation of the region is the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">cerrado (<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a type of savannah), so you will come across an endless variety of<\/span> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">frutas e vegetais raros <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">rare fruits and vegetables) unknown even to those from other regions of Brazil. A famous <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">empresa de sorvetes<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (ice cream brand) from Goi\u00e1s took advantage of this singularity and sells exclusive <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">picol\u00e9s<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (popsicles) with the exotic native fruits flavor, a success across the country (avocado popsicle, anyone?). Savory Goi\u00e1s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">pratos <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(dishes) include <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">arroz<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (rice) with pequi &#8211; a traditional yellow fruit, which adds a strong and special aroma to preparations &#8211; ,<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> galinhada<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> &#8211; a chicken stew with typical vegetables of the region), and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">empad\u00e3o goiano <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(pastry filled with local vegetables) and also the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">panelinha<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (a rustic risotto, with meat and vegetables and cheese au gratin).
