This is a very typical saying in Brazil that is used to refer to something which extends throughout the national territory. Oiapoque and Chu\u00ed are two <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cidades<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (cities) located at the very opposite <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">extremos <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(edges) of our country, the first in the northernmost of <\/span><b>Amap\u00e1<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the second in the southernmost of <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/brazilian-states-rio-grande-do-sul\/\">Rio Grande do sul<\/a>. But hold on! Our text today is not about Brazilian phrases, but about our <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">estados<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (states), more specifically, <\/span><b>Amap\u00e1<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Besides featuring in this most beloved popular saying, since the beginning of November, the state has been in Brazilian <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">not\u00edcias<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (news) spotlight for a much gloomier reason: federal neglect. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Um apag\u00e3o<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (a power blackout) caused by <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">uma empresa privada<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (a private company) has overtaken over 90% of its territory. The issue had not been cleared until the end of November, driving the area into a state of calamity. Despite this sorrow tragedy that had momentarily plagued the region, Amap\u00e1 is a gorgeous place full of natural wonders. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vamos conhecer um pouco mais sobre o estado?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_8553\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft post-item__attachment\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8553\" class=\" wp-image-8553\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/11\/1920px-Amapa_in_Brazil.svg_-1024x1012.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"296\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-8553\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">O estado do Amap\u00e1 no mapa<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With a larger extent than all of Greece, <\/span><b>Amap\u00e1<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is located in the extreme north of Brazil, and its capital is the city of Macap\u00e1. Established only in 1943, when it seceded from Par\u00e1, today it <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">faz fronteira<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (borders) not only with this state, but also with two South American countries, Suriname and French Guiana, in addition to being bathed by the Atlantic Ocean. As you might imagine, the climate there is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">quente<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (hot) and humid, with annual averages between 36\u02daC and 20\u02daC. The constant <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">calor e chuva<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (heat and rain) throughout the year leads to a rich biodiversity, so it is no surprise that this state has dezenove (nineteen) areas protected by law that aim to preserve its <em>mata nativa<\/em> (native forests)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dotted with <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cachoeiras, rios, praias e ilhas<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">waterfalls, rivers, beaches and islands) that make up the Amazon rainforest, eco-tourism is one of the highlights for those who visit <\/span><b>Amap\u00e1<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pororoca<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Portuguese language name for tidal bores, that is, when rivers flow into oceans, is undoubtedly something to be seen and appreciated. The <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ondas<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (waves) formed by this encounter result in the ideal conditions for surfing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A few kilometers from Macap\u00e1, the island of Santana is a great tour if you are on tight schedule but still feels like getting in touch with the exuberance of nature. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>The main feature is the Sama\u00fama trail, where many of these tree species, known as &#8220;mothers of the trees&#8221;, can be seen, in addition to several native animals. If your <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">viagem<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (trip) is a little longer, we recommend 2-day stay at Tumucumaque Mountains National Park. With the help of local guides, you can immerse yourself in the heart of the Amazon rainforest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As for <strong>Amap\u00e1<\/strong><\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> culin\u00e1ria<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (cuisine), bears a lot of resemblances to that of <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/brazilian-states-amazon\/\">Amazonas<\/a>, with plenty of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">peixes de<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00e1gua doce, camar\u00f5es, castanha do par\u00e1<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">freshwater fish, prawns, Brazil nuts), a\u00e7a\u00ed berries, loads of regional fruits that can only be found there, besides many other <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">del\u00edcias de lamber os dedos<\/span><\/i> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(finger-licking treats) And if you are over the age of 18, be sure to try the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gengibirra<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, its typical alcoholic drink.
