Numbers in Portuguese are pretty simple as long as you memorize 1-19 and then the “tens,” twenty-one hundred, which, for the most part besides 20, are the root of the single number. \u00a0Unlike\u00a0French numbers<\/a>, there’s no tricky math or anything. \u00a0The patterns are similar to\u00a0Italian<\/a> or Spanish numbers. \u00a0The starred numbers, 16, 17, and 19 are spelled differently in Portugal,\u00a0dezasseis, dezassete and dezanove<\/em>, respectively.<\/p>\n

Some people question whether the “e” is correct between “vinte” and “um,” etc. \u00a0is correct and whether the number “vinte um,” is not correct itself. \u00a0“Vinte um,” is correct (as is “vinte e um”) when speaking of a quantity of something.<\/p>\n

ex,1. Year – ’96 = noventa e seis and\u00a0not<\/em> noventa seis<\/p>\n

ex,2. Hours – Open 24 hours –\u00a0Aberto vinte e quatro horas<\/em> <\/em>or\u00a0Aberto vinte quatro horas.<\/em><\/p>\n
