Today we will move forward with our series on <\/span><strong><i>estados brasileiros<\/i><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Brazilian states). With <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vinte e sete<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (27) federative units that make up our country, we reached number 14 in our texts. To celebrate this milestone, we will talk about the <\/span><b>state of Para\u00edba<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is located in the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nordeste<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (northeast), where the exuberance of the<\/span> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">litoral<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (coast) stands in sharp contrast with the dryness of its <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">interior<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (countryside). So<\/span> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">se preparem<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (get ready), because you will both find <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">belas praias<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gorgeous beaches), but also discover the unique<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> beleza<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">beauty) of the Paraiba<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> sert\u00e3o<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (backcountry). Let&#8217;s get to know a little more about Para\u00edba?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The name <strong>Para\u00edba<\/strong> comes from the state\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rio principal<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (main river), which, in turn, derives from the Tupi language words pa&#8217;ra (&#8220;river&#8221; or &#8220;sea&#8221;) and a&#8217;iba (&#8220;bad&#8221; or &#8220;difficult to invade&#8221;). And it is on the banks of this <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rio dif\u00edcil de invadir<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8221; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(river that is difficult to invade) that the state capital, Jo\u00e3o Pessoa, is located, one of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mais antigas cidades brasileiras<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">oldest Brazilian cities), founded in 1585.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just like Olinda, in <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/brazilian-states-pernambuco\/\">Pernambuco<\/a>, the city of Para\u00edba has a vast architectural richness which alone would be worth visiting. But before we go into tourism, let&#8217;s take a look at some important facts about the region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Though one of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">menores<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">smallest) Brazilian states, Para\u00edba, with its more than 56 thousand square kilometers is almost as big as Croatia. In addition to the Atlantic Ocean, it borders Pernambuco, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/brazilian-states-ceara\/\">Cear\u00e1<\/a> and Rio Grande do Norte. As the area is located next to the Equator, you can expect <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">clima muito quente<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">intensely hot weather) throughout the year, the average temperatures here are 27\u02daC. In the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sert\u00e3o<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a dry region in the countryside, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">chuva<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (rainfall) is rare, but on the coast it is quite abundant for<\/span> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">todas as esta\u00e7\u00f5es<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (all seasons). This is where the communications tycoon and the man behind Brazil&#8217;s first television channel, Assis Chateaubriand, also known as the Brazilian Citizen Kane, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nasceu<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (was born). Filmmaker Walter Carvalho, director of Oscar-nominated &#8220;Central do Brasil&#8221;, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">escritores <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">writers) Ariano Suassuna and Augusto dos Anjos are other renowned \u2018Paraibanos\u2019. The city of Campina Grande holds one of the biggest<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> S\u00e3o Jo\u00e3o<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> parties do Brasil. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As ruas<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (t<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he streets) swarm with people who perform traditional dances, which partygoers can enjoy along with <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">muitas can\u00e7\u00f5es <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(many songs) and local foods. Keep in mind that this festival always takes place <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">no m\u00eas de julho<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (in the month of July)! And last but not least, the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a beleza natural<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (natural beauty) of the state is not to be missed, and you will certainly come across one of the most beautiful coastal regions in the country. In Jo\u00e3o Pessoa, be sure to visit the beaches of Cabo Branco and Bessa, while in the city of Conde the go-to place is Coqueirinho, Tambaba and Tabatinga.
