O estado de Piau\u00ed no mapa do Brasil<\/p><\/div>\n

Bom dia queridos leitores<\/span>, it\u2019s that time of the month: our ongoing series on <\/span>Estados Brasileiros<\/b> (Brazilian states). Our <\/span>destino<\/span><\/i> (destination) today may not be the one that would normally feature a list of the 10 most sought after <\/span>lugares<\/span><\/i> (places) in our country, however it is a region that boasts many <\/span>belezas<\/span><\/i> (<\/span>beauties). One might even call it a hidden gem for those who want to <\/span>aproveitar<\/span><\/i> (<\/span>enjoy) the best of Brazil, but without having to brave the mass tourism <\/span>multid\u00f5es<\/span><\/i> (crowds). This place is the state of Piau\u00ed, <\/span>vamos conhecer um pouco mais sobre ele?<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Lying between <\/span>o norte e o nordeste<\/span><\/i> (<\/span>the north and northeast) of Brazil, Piau\u00ed is slightly <\/span>maior<\/span><\/i> (larger) than the United Kingdom and borders on five other states: Cear\u00e1<\/a>, Pernambuco<\/a>, Bahia<\/a>, Tocantins and Maranh\u00e3o (put a link to the ones we have already posted). Wavering between a tropical and semi-arid climate, high temperatures are the default, and even during <\/span>o inverno <\/span><\/i>(<\/span>the winter) the thermometers show around 24\u02daC. Teresina is its capital and most populous city, but unlike other northeastern states, it not <\/span>on litoral<\/span><\/i> (on the coast). The Piau\u00ed coast is <\/span>a menor<\/span><\/i> (the<\/span> smallest) in Brazil, only 66 kilometers long. Although <\/span>pequeno<\/span><\/i> (<\/span>small), it offers many attractions for those looking to<\/span> (se refrescar (<\/span>cool off) from the intense <\/span>calor <\/span><\/i>(heat) of the region,<\/span> ent\u00e3o vamos \u00e0s dicas de locais para se conhecer.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Parna\u00edba is the largest of the four coastal cities in Piau\u00ed, and this is where we <\/span>encontramos<\/span><\/i> (find) one of the few deltas in the Americas, the Parna\u00edba Delta, so be sure to stop by! Taking advantage of your <\/span>estadia<\/span><\/i> (stay) in the city, don’t forget to visit the Pedra do Sal <\/span>praia<\/span><\/i> (beach), the <\/span>Ilha do Caju<\/span> and the Portinho lake, where the<\/span> areias brancas<\/span><\/i> (white sands) contrast with the<\/span> azul cristalino das \u00e1guas<\/span><\/i> (<\/span>crystal blue waters). While in the city, Porto das Barcas is a gorgeous historic area and protected by Brazilian<\/span> lei<\/span><\/i> (law). Further inland, two particular destinations <\/span>merecem sua aten\u00e7\u00e3o<\/span><\/i> (deserve your attention): the Serra da Capivara National Park and the Sete Cidades National Park. Among the exuberant <\/span>forma\u00e7\u00f5es rochosas milenares<\/span><\/i> (<\/span>ancient rock formations), you can enjoy <\/span>passeios<\/span><\/i> (walks) in the <\/span>mata<\/span><\/i> (woods), in addition to catching a glimpse of wild animals and several examples of prehistory <\/span>pinturas <\/span><\/i>(painting). <\/span>E quanto \u00e0 gastronomia, voc\u00ea deve estar se perguntando?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Piau\u00ed\u2019s<\/span> pratos t\u00edpicos<\/span><\/i> (typical dishes) are very similar to those of some other northeastern states, and are mainly based on<\/span> culin\u00e1ria sertaneja<\/span><\/i>, with ingredients such as <\/span>carne seca<\/span><\/i> (jerky)<\/span>, <\/span>farinha de mandioca<\/span><\/i> (<\/span>cassava flour),<\/span> carne de bode e mi\u00fados<\/span><\/i> (<\/span>goat meat and intestines). Among its gastronomic variety, we highlight the <\/span>pa\u00e7oca<\/span><\/i>, which is a mixture of cassava flour, <\/span>carne de sol desfiada<\/span><\/i> (<\/span>shredded sun-dried meat),<\/span> coentro<\/span><\/i> (<\/span>coriander) and thin slices of banana. Another Piau\u00ed delicacy is the<\/span> assado ou cozido<\/span><\/i> (<\/span>roasted or boiled) goat, mixed together with leite de coco (coconut milk) for a <\/span>saboroso caldo<\/span><\/i> (<\/span>tasty broth). The sarapatel, a dish served in many bars as a snack, is made with<\/span> rim de porco<\/span><\/i> (pork kidney) and many spices, usually along with the ubiquitous cassava flour and hot sauce. To make up for these wholesome meals, be sure to delight yourself with all the different versions of caju (cashews) that are widely available in the region, whether in their natural form, as a jam or even in <\/span>bebidas <\/span><\/i>(drinks) such as juice or caju\u00edna!<\/span><\/p>\n
