Our <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">destino<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (destination) today may not be the one that would normally feature a list of the 10 most sought after <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">lugares<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (places) in our country, however it is a region that boasts many <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">belezas<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">beauties). One might even call it a hidden gem for those who want to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">aproveitar<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">enjoy) the best of Brazil, but without having to brave the mass tourism <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">multid\u00f5es<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (crowds). This place is the state of Piau\u00ed, <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">vamos conhecer um pouco mais sobre ele?<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lying between <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">o norte e o nordeste<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the north and northeast) of Brazil, Piau\u00ed is slightly <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">maior<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (larger) than the United Kingdom and borders on five other states: <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/brazilian-states-ceara\/\">Cear\u00e1<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/brazilian-states-pernambuco\/\">Pernambuco<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/portuguese\/brazilian-states-bahia\/\">Bahia<\/a>, Tocantins and Maranh\u00e3o (put a link to the ones we have already posted). Wavering between a tropical and semi-arid climate, high temperatures are the default, and even during <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">o inverno <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the winter) the thermometers show around 24\u02daC. Teresina is its capital and most populous city, but unlike other northeastern states, it not <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">on litoral<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (on the coast). The Piau\u00ed coast is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a menor<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (the<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">smallest) in Brazil, only 66 kilometers long. Taking advantage of your <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">estadia<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (stay) in the city, don&#8217;t forget to visit the Pedra do Sal <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">praia<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (beach), the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ilha do Caju<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and the Portinho lake, where the<\/span> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">areias brancas<\/span><\/i> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(white sands) contrast with the<\/span> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">azul cristalino das \u00e1guas<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">crystal blue waters). While in the city, Porto das Barcas is a gorgeous historic area and protected by Brazilian<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> lei<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (law). Further inland, two particular destinations <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">merecem sua aten\u00e7\u00e3o<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (deserve your attention): the Serra da Capivara National Park and the Sete Cidades National Park. Among its gastronomic variety, we highlight the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">pa\u00e7oca<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which is a mixture of cassava flour, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">carne de sol desfiada<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">shredded sun-dried meat),<\/span> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">coentro<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">coriander) and thin slices of banana. Another Piau\u00ed delicacy is the<\/span> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">assado ou cozido<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">roasted or boiled) goat, mixed together with leite de coco (coconut milk) for a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">saboroso caldo<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">tasty broth). The sarapatel, a dish served in many bars as a snack, is made with<\/span> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">rim de porco<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (pork kidney) and many spices, usually along with the ubiquitous cassava flour and hot sauce.
