As you may know, Library Card month is celebrated in <\/span>Setembro<\/span><\/i> (September) as a campaign to motivate people to <\/span>se inscrever<\/span><\/i> (sign up) and start borrowing some books. To get everyone in the reading spirit, I thought this could be a great opportunity to introduce you to a celebrated Brazilian contemporary author whose <\/span>poesia<\/span><\/i> (poetry) has earned the admiration of thousands of <\/span>leitores<\/span><\/i> (readers) nationwide: <\/span>Ana Martins Marques.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

And why choose her of all people? Well, the answer is simple. In 2012, Marques was granted the <\/span>Pr\u00eamio Liter\u00e1rio da Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Biblioteca Nacional<\/em>, that is, the National Library literary award, among other accolades. Speaking of which, our National library happens to be<\/span> a maior <\/span><\/i>(the largest) in Latin America and 7th largest in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

Born in Belo Horizonte, in the state of Minas Gerais, Ana Martins Marques has so far <\/span>publicou<\/span><\/i> (published) seven<\/span> livros de poesia<\/span><\/i> (poetry books). So if you are curious to<\/span> ler<\/span><\/i> (read) her work, in addition to practicing your Portuguese reading skills, let\u2019s have a look at her <\/span>Poemas Reunidos<\/span><\/i> (literally translated as<\/span> Gathered Poems<\/span><\/i>, which means \u201cselected poems\u201d). as distant relatives<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

a little bored<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

around a table<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

like former schoolmates<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

like old friends to play cards<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

like combatants<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

in an arena<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

fighting cocks<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

racehorses or<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

boxers in a ring<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

as ministers of state<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

in a dome<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

or schoolchildren on a field trip<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

like secret lovers<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

in a hotel room<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

at six in the afternoon<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n
