If you look back a hundred years, do you know what was going on in your country back then? Well, c<em>em anos atr\u00e1s<\/em> (a hundred years ago), the <b>Semana de Arte Moderna<\/b> (Modern Art Week) was held in S\u00e3o Paulo, a milestone in arts and culture in Brazil. The event featured <em>exposi\u00e7\u00f5es de arte<\/em> (art exhibitions), <em>palestras<\/em> (lectures), book and poetry readings, concerts and dance performances. Many notorious artists, pintores (painters) and escritores (writers) like Di Cavalcanti, \u00a0Anita\u00a0Malfatti, M\u00e1rio de Andrade, Oswald de Andrade and Heitor Villa-Lobos had the unique opportunity to present their work to Brazilian society. But enough about that <em>por enquanto<\/em> (for the time being). You can find out more about <strong>Semana de Arte Moderna<\/strong> in future posts.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s now shift our attention to <strong>Manuel Bandeira<\/strong>, whose poetry was received with both enthusiasm and rage by the clapping and booing <em>p\u00fablico<\/em> (audience) during a reading of &#8220;Os Sapos&#8221; in <strong>Semana de Arte Moderna<\/strong>. The modernist author had a\u00a0funny, provocative and iconoclastic style, which we will get to know today with his best-known poem, <em>Vou-me embora pra Pas\u00e1rgada<\/em>.
