In chapter 3 of \u00ab<\/strong>\u041c\u0430<\/span>\u0441\u0442\u0435\u0440 <\/strong>\u0438 <\/strong>\u041c\u0430\u0440\u0433\u0430\u0440\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u0430\u00bb<\/strong> [\u201dThe Master & Margarita\u201d] we read about how \u00ab<\/strong>\u0411\u0435\u0440\u043b\u0438\u043e<\/span>\u0437\u00bb<\/strong> [Berlioz] lost his head and died as a result. Chapter 4 is called \u00ab<\/strong>\u041f\u043e\u0433\u043e<\/span>\u043d\u044f\u00bb<\/strong> [1.<\/strong> pursuit, chase; 2.<\/strong> pursuers] (think of the verb \u00ab<\/strong>\u0433\u043e\u043d\u044f<\/span>\u0442\u044c\u00bb<\/strong> which is the imperfective and indeterminate \u2018friend\u2019<\/em> of the verb \u00ab<\/strong>\u0433\u043d\u0430\u0442\u044c\u00bb<\/strong> meaning \u2018to drive; to urge on; to hunt, chase; to drive\u2019<\/em>) and in it we are left on our own with the poet \u00ab<\/strong>\u0418\u0432\u0430<\/span>\u043d <\/strong>\u041d\u0438\u043a\u043e\u043b\u0430<\/span>\u0435\u0432\u0438\u0447\u00bb<\/strong> [Ivan Nikolaevich] \u2013 more famous among his contemporary literary friends under the pseudonym of \u00ab<\/strong>\u0411\u0435\u0437\u0434\u043e<\/span>\u043c\u043d\u044b\u0439\u00bb<\/strong> [Homeless] \u2013 and get to follow him as he \u00ab<\/strong>\u0433\u043e\u043d\u044f<\/span>\u0435\u0442\u0441\u044f <\/strong>\u0437\u0430 <\/strong>\u0412\u043e<\/span>\u043b\u0430\u043d\u0434\u043e\u043c\u00bb <\/strong>[pursues; chases after Voland] \u00ab<\/strong>\u0447\u0435<\/span>\u0440\u0435\u0437 <\/strong>\u041c\u043e\u0441\u043a\u0432\u0443<\/span>\u00bb<\/strong> [through Moscow]. While reading this chapter, I underlined every word that I either a)<\/strong> didn\u2019t know; or b)<\/strong> wanted to know better. I decided to share some of them with you in today\u2019s post; thus it covers no less than 20 new Russian words with English translation \u2013 together with the context in which they\u2019re used in the novel. If you don\u2019t agree with my translation, \u00ab<\/strong>\u0441\u043a\u0430\u0436\u0438<\/span>\u0442\u0435 <\/strong>\u043c\u043d\u0435 <\/strong>\u043f\u0440\u044f<\/span>\u043c\u043e <\/strong>\u0438 <\/strong>\u0431\u0435\u0441\u0441\u0442\u0440\u0430<\/span>\u0448\u043d\u043e!\u00bb<\/strong> [tell me straight and fearlessly!]. What do you think?:<\/p>\n
