In 1849, he was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.laphamsquarterly.org\/time\/under-gun\">sentenced to death<\/a> for his participation in a political club, but his sentence was commuted to hard labor and exile. Dostoevsky spent 5 years in the city of Semey (<strong>\u0421\u0435\u043c<span style=\"color: #339966\">\u0435<\/span>\u0439<\/strong>, then called Semipalatinsk, <strong>\u0421\u0435\u043c\u0438\u043f\u0430\u043b<span style=\"color: #339966\">\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u0438\u043d\u0441\u043a<\/strong>), and the years from 1857 to 1859 of them in a rented apartment that now houses his museum. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lonelyplanet.com\/kazakhstan\/semey\/attractions\/dostoevsky-museum\/a\/poi-sig\/1089613\/356863\">Lonely Planet<\/a>, &#8220;The displays range over Dostoevsky\u2019s life and works, including his five years in jail at Omsk (and a model of the prison barracks) and five years of enforced military service at Semey.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Hvid\u00f8re Castle, Denmark<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Maria_Feodorovna_(Dagmar_of_Denmark)\">Danish princess Dagmar<\/a>, who adopted the name of Maria Feodorovna (<strong>\u041c\u0430\u0440<span style=\"color: #339966\">\u0438<\/span>\u044f \u0424\u0451\u0434\u043e\u0440\u043e\u0432\u043d\u0430<\/strong>), was married to Russian tsar (<strong>\u0446\u0430\u0440\u044c<\/strong>) Alexander III. Their eldest son, Nicolas II, would be the last Russian tsar. After the Russian Revolution, she left the country and eventually went to live in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hvid%C3%B8re\">Hvid\u00f8re<\/a> \u2014 an estate she had bought together with her sister Queen Alexandra of England. The building he was staying in was converted to a museum, which also hosts literary events. The official webpage has more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.badenweiler.de\/Media\/Attraktionen\/Literarisches-Museum-Tschechow-Salon\">information about the museum<\/a> (in German), and this attraction has received <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Attraction_Review-g198388-d12012206-Reviews-Literarisches_Museum_Tschechow_Salon-Badenweiler_Baden_Wurttemberg.html\">positive reviews<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Leon Trotsky House-Museum, Mexico<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Leon_Trotsky\">Leon Trotsky<\/a> (<strong>\u041b\u0435\u0432 \u0422\u0440<span style=\"color: #339966\">\u043e<\/span>\u0446\u043a\u0438\u0439<\/strong>), born Lev Bronstein (<strong>\u041b\u0435\u0432 \u0411\u0440\u043e\u043d\u0448\u0442<span style=\"color: #339966\">\u0435<\/span>\u0439\u043d<\/strong>), was a revolutionary and a politician in the early Soviet Union. After he fell out of favo(u)r with Stalin, Trotsky was exiled, eventually settling in Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Attraction_Review-g150800-d152901-Reviews-Museo_Casa_De_Leon_Trotsky-Mexico_City_Central_Mexico_and_Gulf_Coast.html\">house where he lived<\/a> with his family until he was assassinated on Stalin&#8217;s orders in 1940 has been converted to a museum. He left Russia after the revolution and, after travels in Europe and the US, moved to India, motivated by his Eastern-influenced mysticism.
