While every relationship (\u043e\u0442\u043d\u043e\u0448\u0435<\/span>\u043d\u0438\u044f<\/strong>, always plural in this sense) is different, you will find that romance is very much alive for Russian partners. At least for the first few dates (\u0441\u0432\u0438\u0434\u0430<\/span>\u043d\u0438\u044f<\/strong>), there is an expectation that you will do something meaningful. This may include eating out (\u043f\u043e\u0445\u043e<\/span>\u0434 \u0432 \u0440\u0435\u0441\u0442\u043e\u0440\u0430<\/span>\u043d<\/strong>), a concert (\u043a\u043e\u043d\u0446\u0435<\/span>\u0440\u0442<\/strong>), or seeing a film (\u043f\u043e\u0445\u043e<\/span>\u0434 \u0432 \u043a\u0438\u043d\u043e<\/span><\/strong>). One of my favorite dates was ice-skating (\u043a\u0430\u0442\u0430<\/span>\u043d\u0438\u0435 \u043d\u0430 \u043a\u043e\u043d\u044c\u043a\u0430<\/span>\u0445<\/strong>)!<\/p>\n This means that you will need to put a little bit of planning into the time you spend with a Russian partner. Just chilling in front of the TV in your pajamas may not cut it, at least, not initially.<\/p>\n Traditionally, the expectation has been that young people will date (\u0432\u0441\u0442\u0440\u0435\u0447\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u044c\u0441\u044f<\/strong>) with the ultimate goal of finding a partner for life. In other words, you would see if this person worked for you as a prospective spouse (\u0441\u0443\u043f\u0440\u0443<\/span>\u0433\/\u0441\u0443\u043f\u0440\u0443<\/span>\u0433\u0430<\/strong>) and either get married or move on to try your luck elsewhere. You may hear people say that a man who is dating a woman for a long time without proposing (\u0434\u0435<\/span>\u043b\u0430\u0442\u044c \u043f\u0440\u0435\u0434\u043b\u043e\u0436\u0435<\/span>\u043d\u0438\u0435<\/strong>) does not take her seriously and is taking advantage of her.<\/p>\n Once again, younger people, especially in large cities, are gradually moving away from this thinking. However, if you are hoping to take things slow and enjoy a more casual relationship, you may find that there is pressure \u2014 if not from your partner, then from their family \u2014 to take things to the next level.<\/p>\n Image via Pixabay<\/p><\/div>\n There is some disagreement<\/a> as to who pays (\u043f\u043b\u0430<\/span>\u0442\u0438\u0442<\/strong>) for the meal (tickets, trips, etc.) when two people go on a date, but you may find that many women will expect the man to pay. His willingness to pay is taken as a token of his interest in the relationship. For non-romantic outings or couples\/groups of the same gender, the person extending the invitation (\u043f\u0440\u0438\u0433\u043b\u0430\u0448\u0435<\/span>\u043d\u0438\u0435<\/strong>) is expected to pay.<\/p>\n This being said, younger couples, like today’s university students (\u0441\u0442\u0443\u0434\u0435<\/span>\u043d\u0442\u044b<\/strong>) may split the bill. If you would prefer to split the bill, it’s best to ask the waiter (\u043e\u0444\u0438\u0446\u0438\u0430<\/span>\u043d\u0442<\/strong>) to bring separate checks (\u043e\u0442\u0434\u0435<\/span>\u043b\u044c\u043d\u044b\u0439 \u0441\u0447\u0451\u0442<\/strong>). If you hurt yourself or need anything, they will likely tend to your needs and make sure you’re happy. It may come off as overbearing if you are not used to it, but they also expect you to show the same level of care towards them.<\/p>\n That means, for example, waiting for your partner if they are walking behind you and taking care of them if they are sick (\u0431\u043e\u043b\u0435<\/span>\u0435\u0442<\/strong>). If you just say “Are you OK?” and go on with your day, it may be seen as callous.<\/p>\n Of course, not everyone will share these traits, but it’s useful to be aware of them to understand your Russian partner better.
