This is how you say “World Cup”\u2014literally, “world championship.” \u0427\u0435\u043c\u043f\u0438\u043e\u0301\u043d is a champion in the sports sense.<\/p>\n

You may know the word \u0431\u0438\u0442\u044c, to hit or to beat. A related word is \u0437\u0430\u0431\u0438\u0301\u0442\u044c (imperfective \u0437\u0430\u0431\u0438\u0432\u0430\u0301\u0442\u044c), which means to score in the soccer context. This word is used in such expressions as \u0437\u0430\u0431\u0438\u0442\u044c \u043c\u044f\u0447 or \u0437\u0430\u0431\u0438\u0301\u0442\u044c \u0433\u043e\u043b, both meaning to score a goal.<\/p>\n
