This word traditionally referred to Western\/Catholic kings, although nowadays it may be used for other monarchies. A kingdom is <strong>\u043a\u043e\u0440\u043e\u043b\u0435\u0301\u0432\u0441\u0442\u0432\u043e<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u041a\u043e\u0440\u043e\u043b\u0435\u0301\u0432\u0430<\/strong> is &#8220;queen,&#8221; and normally means the king&#8217;s wife, although a queen in her own right would be <strong>\u043a\u043e\u0440\u043e\u043b\u0435\u0301\u0432\u0430<\/strong>, too.<\/p>\n<p>Some famous bearers of these titles are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>\u043a\u043e\u0440\u043e\u0301\u043b\u044c \u0410\u0440\u0442\u0443\u0301\u0440<\/strong> (King Arthur)<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u043a\u043e\u0440\u043e\u043b\u0435\u0301\u0432\u0430 \u0412\u0438\u043a\u0442\u043e\u0301\u0440\u0438\u044f<\/strong> (Queen Victoria)<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u043a\u043e\u0440\u043e\u0301\u043b\u044c \u0413\u0435\u0301\u043d\u0440\u0438\u0445 VIII<\/strong> (number pronounced &#8220;<strong>\u0432\u043e\u0441\u044c\u043c\u043e\u0301\u0439<\/strong>&#8220;\u2014King Henry VIII)<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u043a\u043e\u0440\u043e\u0301\u043b\u044c \u041b\u044e\u0434\u043e\u0301\u0432\u0438\u043a XIV<\/strong> (&#8220;<strong>\u0447\u0435\u0442\u044b\u0301\u0440\u043d\u0430\u0434\u0446\u0430\u0442\u044b\u0439<\/strong>&#8220;\u2014King Louis XIV)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>\u0426\u0430\u0440\u044c\/\u0426\u0430\u0440\u0438\u0301\u0446\u0430<\/h2>\n<p>The title <strong>\u0446\u0430\u0440\u044c<\/strong> (tsar) comes from the Latin &#8220;caesar&#8221; and is traditionally used for most Orthodox Christian (Russian and otherwise) monarchs and rulers outside the &#8220;West.&#8221; <strong>\u0426\u0430\u0440\u0438\u0301\u0446\u0430<\/strong> is the female counterpart, either as the tsar&#8217;s wife or as an independent ruler. Note that this word is different from the English &#8220;tsarina&#8221;\u2014it&#8217;s <strong>\u0446\u0430\u0440\u0438\u0301\u0446\u0430<\/strong>, not <del>\u0446\u0430\u0440\u0438\u043d\u0430<\/del>. (There are cases of calling other members of the royal family or noble people in general &#8220;<strong>\u043a\u043d\u044f\u0437\u044c<\/strong>,&#8221; in Russian history and otherwise. This post will concentrate on the original &#8220;standalone&#8221; sense of the word.) This word is a cognate of such words as &#8220;king,&#8221; &#8220;K\u00f6nig,&#8221; etc. A principality is <strong>\u043a\u043d\u044f\u0301\u0436\u0435\u0441\u0442\u0432\u043e<\/strong>, for example, <strong>\u041a\u043d\u044f\u0301\u0436\u0435\u0441\u0442\u0432\u043e \u041c\u043e\u043d\u0430\u0301\u043a\u043e<\/strong> (The Principality of Monaco).
