This network was founded by Pavel Durov (<strong>\u041f\u0430\u0301\u0432\u0435\u043b \u0414\u0443\u0301\u0440\u043e\u0432<\/strong>) in 2007. In 2014, Durov resigned as the CEO\u2014according to him, he <a href=\"http:\/\/old.themoscowtimes.com\/business\/article\/vkontakte-founder-pavel-durov-learns-hes-been-fired-through-media\/498641.html\">was pushed out<\/a> due to his refusal to turn over user data to state security agencies.<\/p>\n<p>In 2013, Durov and his brother launched a messaging app (<strong>\u043f\u0440\u0438\u043b\u043e\u0436\u0435\u0301\u043d\u0438\u0435<\/strong>) called <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Telegram_(software)\">Telegram<\/a>. Because it offered encryption (<strong>\u0448\u0438\u0444\u0440\u043e\u0432\u0430\u0301\u043d\u0438\u0435<\/strong>), Russian security agencies claimed that the app may be used by terrorists and demanded that the developers turn over the encryption keys. Telegram refused and was blocked in Russia in 2018, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.co.uk\/article\/telegram-in-russia-blocked-web-app-ban-facebook-twitter-google\">remains popular and widely accessible<\/a> despite the ban.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from its private messaging feature, Telegram has public &#8220;channels&#8221; (<strong>\u043a\u0430\u043d\u0430\u0301\u043b\u044b<\/strong>) you can follow (<strong>\u043f\u043e\u0434\u043f\u0438\u0441\u0430\u0301\u0442\u044c\u0441\u044f \u043d\u0430 \u043a\u0430\u043d\u0430\u0301\u043b<\/strong>, literally &#8220;subscribe&#8221;). I have found some of these channels quite interesting in terms of keeping up with new developments in the Russian language and opinions on various issues. The channel shares medical information and busts health myths.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/web.telegram.org\/#\/im?p=@funscience\"><strong>Funscience<\/strong><\/a>\u2014covers different scientific discoveries. This channel may be interesting for anyone wanting to pick up natural science vocabulary in Russian.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Of course, there are many more channels: travel, fashion, personal stories, feminism, education, self-help\u2014you name it.
