It turned out that more &#8220;highbrow&#8221; activities like reading fiction or going to the theatre are losing popularity, while watching TV shows has picked up.<\/p>\n<p>The survey (\u043e\u043f\u0440\u043e\u0441) included over 1,600 adults in 50 constituent regions of Russia (<strong>\u0441\u0443\u0431\u044a\u0435\u0301\u043a\u0442\u044b \u0444\u0435\u0434\u0435\u0440\u0430\u0301\u0446\u0438\u0438<\/strong>). The question was worded as &#8220;<strong>\u041a\u0430\u043a \u0447\u0430\u0301\u0441\u0442\u043e \u0432\u044b&#8230;<\/strong>&#8221; (&#8220;How often do you&#8230;&#8221;), followed by different activities.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11837\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone post-item__attachment\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11837\" class=\"size-large wp-image-11837\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/07\/old_lady-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"old woman reading in front of the TV\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/07\/old_lady-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/07\/old_lady-350x233.jpg 350w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/russian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/07\/old_lady-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-11837\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by <a href=\"https:\/\/unsplash.com\/@1m55sm?utm_source=unsplash&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_content=creditCopyText\">Mariia Chalaya<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/unsplash.com\/?utm_source=unsplash&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_content=creditCopyText\">Unsplash<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<h2>Watching Films and Series<\/h2>\n<p>Watching movies and shows (<strong>\u0441\u043c\u043e\u0301\u0442\u0440\u0438\u0442\u0435 \u0444\u0438\u0301\u043b\u044c\u043c\u044b \u0438 \u0441\u0435\u0440\u0438\u0430\u0301\u043b\u044b<\/strong>) was the most popular pastime, with 53 percent saying &#8220;almost every day&#8221; (<strong>\u043f\u043e\u0447\u0442\u0438\u0301 \u043a\u0430\u0301\u0436\u0434\u044b\u0439 \u0434\u0435\u043d\u044c<\/strong>) and an additional 26 percent saying &#8220;at least once a week&#8221; (<strong>\u043d\u0435 \u0440\u0435\u0301\u0436\u0435 1 \u0440\u0430\u0301\u0437\u0430 \u0432 \u043d\u0435\u0434\u0435\u0301\u043b\u044e<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, for going to the cinema (<strong>\u0445\u043e\u0301\u0434\u0438\u0442\u0435 \u0432 \u043a\u0438\u043d\u043e\u0301<\/strong>), the numbers were much lower: 5 percent for once a week, 20 percent for 1\u20132 times a week (<strong>\u043e\u0434\u0438\u043d-\u0434\u0432\u0430 \u0440\u0430\u0301\u0437\u0430 \u0432 \u043c\u0435\u0301\u0441\u044f\u0446<\/strong>), and a further 30 percent for several times a year at most (<strong>\u043d\u0435\u0301\u0441\u043a\u043e\u043b\u044c\u043a\u043e \u0440\u0430\u0437 \u0432 \u0433\u043e\u0434 \u0438\u0301\u043b\u0438 \u0440\u0435\u0301\u0436\u0435<\/strong>), with 44 percent saying never (<strong>\u043d\u0438\u043a\u043e\u0433\u0434\u0430\u0301<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<h2>Socializing<\/h2>\n<p>Another popular option was meeting up with friends in the courtyard\/patio or in the street (<strong>\u0432\u0441\u0442\u0440\u0435\u0447\u0430\u0301\u0435\u0442\u0435\u0441\u044c \u0441 \u0434\u0440\u0443\u0437\u044c\u044f\u0301\u043c\u0438 \u0432\u043e \u0434\u0432\u043e\u0440\u0435\u0301, \u043d\u0430 \u0443\u0301\u043b\u0438\u0446\u0435<\/strong>). <strong>\u0414\u0432\u043e\u0440<\/strong> (literally, yard) is the space between Russian typical high-rise buildings that often has benches, playgrounds, and other public spaces. Sixty six percent said they met up with friends at least once a week, and another 16 percent a couple times a month.<\/p>\n<p>Visiting family in their homes or hosting them in yours (<strong>\u043f\u0440\u0438\u043d\u0438\u043c\u0430\u0301\u0435\u0442\u0435 \u0443 \u0441\u0435\u0431\u044f\u0301 \u0438\u043b\u0438 \u0445\u043e\u0301\u0434\u0438\u0442\u0435 \u0432 \u0433\u043e\u0301\u0441\u0442\u0438 \u043a \u0440\u043e\u0301\u0434\u0441\u0442\u0432\u0435\u043d\u043d\u0438\u043a\u0430\u043c<\/strong>) is a weekly activity for 43 percent and a monthly one for 31 percent. Almost a third of all respondents (32 percent) said they never read periodicals. The pollster points out that the share of youth (<strong>\u043c\u043e\u043b\u043e\u0434\u0451\u0436\u044c<\/strong>) aged 18\u201329 who never read papers or magazines has gone up from 4 to 46 percent between 2006 and 2019. Going to the theat[er\/re], a conservatory of music, or a museum (<strong>\u0445\u043e\u0301\u0434\u0438\u0442\u0435 \u0432 \u0442\u0435\u0430\u0301\u0442\u0440, \u043a\u043e\u043d\u0441\u0435\u0440\u0432\u0430\u0442\u043e\u0301\u0440\u0438\u044e, \u0432 \u043c\u0443\u0437\u0435\u0301\u0438<\/strong>) was a bit more popular, with &#8220;only&#8221; 55 percent saying they never did that, and a further 34 percent doing it a few times a year.<\/p>\n<p>The authors commented that living in a large city, having a higher education, and more disposable income correlated with visiting the cinema, concerts, theaters, and restaurants. Women were more likely to read fiction, watch series, and visit theaters and museums, while men were more likely to hang out with their friends.<\/p>\n<p>How do the findings compare to your experiences with and expectations of Russians?
