Officially, autumn (\u043e\u0301<\/span><\/i><\/em>\u0441\u0435\u043d\u044c<\/em>) in Russia begins on September 1 and ends on October 31. In each climatic zone, fall (\u043e\u0301<\/span><\/i><\/em>\u0441\u0435\u043d\u044c<\/em>) has its own characteristics and duration. Nevertheless, it is the shortest, but for me the most picturesque and romantic season.<\/p>\n

Autumn in Russia<\/h2>\n

The weather in early September (\u0441\u0435\u043d\u0442\u044f\u0301<\/i>\u0431\u0440\u044c<\/em>) is usually cool (\u043f\u0440\u043e\u0445\u043b\u0430\u0301<\/i>\u0434\u043d\u043e<\/em>). Then the Indian summer<\/a>\u00a0(“\u0431\u0430\u0301<\/i>\u0431\u044c\u0435 \u043b\u0435\u0301<\/i>\u0442\u043e<\/em><\/a>“, which means “grandmother’s summer”) begins. This is a short period of mild (\u043c\u044f\u0301<\/i>\u0433\u043a\u0438\u0439<\/em>), sunny (\u0441\u043e\u0301<\/span><\/i>\u043b\u043d\u0435\u0447\u043d\u044b\u0439<\/em>), no precipitation (\u0431\u0435\u0437 \u043e\u0441\u0430\u0301<\/i>\u0434\u043a\u043e\u0432<\/em>), warm (\u0442\u0451\u043f\u043b\u044b\u0439<\/em>), but not hot (\u043d\u0435 \u0436\u0430\u0301<\/i>\u0440\u043a\u0438\u0439<\/em>) weather (\u043f\u043e\u0433\u043e\u0301<\/span><\/i>\u0434\u0430<\/em>). In the central region of the European part of Russia, the beginning of “\u0431\u0430\u0431\u044c\u0435 \u043b\u0435\u0442\u043e” is in mid-September. In southern Siberia, warming often starts in late September – early October (\u043e\u043a\u0442\u044f\u0301<\/i>\u0431\u0440\u044c<\/em>). In the Black Sea region, it is called “\u0431\u0430\u0301<\/i>\u0440\u0445\u0430\u0442\u043d\u044b\u0439 \u0441\u0435\u0437\u043e\u0301<\/span><\/i>\u043d<\/em><\/a>” (“Velvet Season<\/a>“) and lasts for two months.<\/p>\n

In central Russia in October, there is a decided chill (\u0445\u043e\u0301<\/span><\/i>\u043b\u043e\u0434<\/em>) in the air. The leaves (\u043b\u0438\u0301<\/i>\u0441\u0442\u044c\u044f)<\/em> have already begun to change their color (\u0446\u0432\u0435\u0442<\/em>). During this wonderful time of leaf fall (\u043b\u0438\u0441\u0442\u043e\u043f\u0430\u0301<\/i>\u0434<\/em>), you can see photographers (\u0444\u043e\u0442\u043e\u0301<\/span><\/i>\u0433\u0440\u0430\u0444\u044b<\/em>) bending over a leaf (\u043b\u0438\u0441\u0442) <\/em>in a puddle (\u043b\u0443\u0301<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u0436\u0430<\/em>) or lying on the ground and taking pictures (\u0444\u043e\u0442\u043e\u0433\u0440\u0430\u0444\u0438\u0301<\/i>\u0440\u043e\u0432\u0430\u0442\u044c<\/em>) of kids for a family photo shoot (\u0444\u043e\u0442\u043e\u0441\u0435\u0301<\/i>\u0441\u0441\u0438\u044f<\/em>). In recent years, it has become popular to launch drones into the sky (\u043d\u0435\u0301<\/i>\u0431\u043e<\/em>) to capture all the beauty (\u043a\u0440\u0430\u0441\u043e\u0442\u0430\u0301<\/i><\/em>) of fall in nature (\u043f\u0440\u0438\u0440\u043e\u0301<\/span><\/i>\u0434\u0430<\/em>) on cameras (\u043a\u0430\u0301<\/i>\u043c\u0435\u0440\u044b<\/em>). At the same time, the first snow (\u0441\u043d\u0435\u0433<\/em>) has already started in the northern cities of the country. Snow, which rarely settles, remains wet and slushy, so sturdy waterproof boots and a raincoat are essential there. There are other folk traditions connected with autumn. The “Golden Autumn” (“\u0417\u043e\u043b\u043e\u0442\u0430\u0301<\/i>\u044f \u043e\u0301<\/span><\/i>\u0441\u0435\u043d\u044c<\/em>“) harvest festival (\u0444\u0435\u0441\u0442\u0438\u0432\u0430\u0301<\/i>\u043b\u044c \u0443\u0440\u043e\u0436\u0430\u0301<\/i>\u044f<\/em>) takes place throughout Russia.<\/p>\n

November (\u043d\u043e\u044f\u0301<\/i>\u0431\u0440\u044c<\/em>) is the worst month of the entire year. Cold winds (\u0432\u0435\u0301<\/i>\u0442\u0440\u044b<\/i><\/em>), rains (\u0434\u043e\u0436\u0434\u0438\u0301<\/i><\/em>), and frosts (\u0437\u0430\u0301<\/i>\u043c\u043e\u0440\u043e\u0437\u043a\u0438<\/em>) begin in Moscow, with the temperature of around -4 F. In Siberia, it can even drop below -58 F. South of Russia remains the warmest part of the country, with temperatures around 50 F. The first snowfall (\u0441\u043d\u0435\u0433\u043e\u043f\u0430\u0301<\/i>\u0434<\/em>) is coming soon. The Russians take out winter (\u0437\u0438\u0301<\/i>\u043c\u043d\u0438\u0435<\/em>) jackets (\u043a\u0443\u0301<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u0440\u0442\u043a\u0438<\/em>), fur coats (\u0448\u0443\u0301<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u0431\u044b<\/em>), boots (\u0431\u043e\u0442\u0438\u0301<\/i>\u043d\u043a\u0438<\/em>), scarves (\u0448\u0430\u0301<\/i>\u0440\u0444\u044b<\/em>), and hats (\u0448\u0430\u0301<\/i>\u043f\u043a\u0438<\/em>) from their closets, preparing for winter.<\/p>\n

A muse for artists, poets, and musicians<\/h2>\n

The beginning of autumn is a beautiful time of year when nature puts on its most gorgeous fineries. The variety of colors amazes with its magic. That is why fall is so popular among creative people. Green (\u0437\u0435\u043b\u0451\u043d\u044b\u0439<\/span><\/em>), orange (\u043e\u0440\u0430\u0301<\/i>\u043d\u0436\u0435\u0432\u044b\u0439<\/span><\/em>), red (\u043a\u0440\u0430\u0301<\/i>\u0441\u043d\u044b\u0439<\/span><\/em>), yellow (\u0436\u0451\u043b\u0442\u044b\u0439<\/span><\/em>), crimson (\u0431\u0430\u0433\u0440\u044f\u0301<\/i>\u043d\u044b\u0439<\/span><\/em>), magenta (\u043f\u0443\u0440\u043f\u0443\u0301<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u0440\u043d\u044b\u0439<\/span><\/em>), purple (\u0444\u0438\u043e\u043b\u0435\u0301<\/i>\u0442\u043e\u0432\u044b\u0439<\/span><\/em>) landscapes against a bright blue (\u044f\u0301<\/i><\/em>\u0440\u043a\u043e<\/em>–\u0441\u0438\u0301<\/i>\u043d\u0438\u0439<\/em><\/span>) sky inspire artists (\u0445\u0443\u0434\u043e\u0301<\/span>\u0436\u043d\u0438\u043a\u0438<\/em>), writers (\u043f\u0438\u0441\u0430\u0301<\/i>\u0442\u0435\u043b\u0438<\/em>), and musicians (\u043c\u0443\u0437\u044b\u043a\u0430\u0301<\/i>\u043d\u0442\u044b<\/em>). For example, “Golden Autumn<\/a>” by Isaac Levitan<\/a>,\u00a0painted in 1895, became a masterpiece.<\/p>\n

Most famous singers have a lyric song about autumn. DDT, a popular Russian rock band, performed the song “What is autumn” (“\u0427\u0442\u043e\u0301<\/span> \u0442\u0430\u043a\u043e\u0301<\/span>\u0435 \u043e\u0301<\/span>\u0441\u0435\u043d\u044c”) in 1992. But even today, the younger generation knows it well.<\/p>\n
